Position Overview:
The Tool and Die Maker is responsible for interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and assembly prints to build, repair, and maintain precision tooling that supports production operations. This role ensures all tooling components meet exact specifications through detailed inspection using precision measuring equipment such as height masters, dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, gage blocks, and gage pins. Success in this position requires a strong commitment to accuracy, craftsmanship, and tooling performance.
Responsibilities:
Tooling:
· Demonstrates a strong understanding of stamping die functionality and the importance of proper die timing.
· Builds, assembles, repairs, maintains, and troubleshoots hand-load, compound, and progressive stamping dies.
· Leads new die builds from assembly through final functionality verification.
· Supports dies performing piercing, blanking, lancing, shaving, trimming, forming, drawing, and coining operations.
· Ensures dies are operating efficiently and producing quality parts to print specifications.
· Other essential job functions as assigned.
Machining:
· Demonstrates strong, diverse experience in both manual and CNC machining operations.
· Manufactures precision tool steel details using the most efficient machining methods available.
· Operates CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, manual lathes, and manual mills with a high level of competency.
· Performs precision surface grinding operations, including accurate use of radius dressers, sine dressers, and punch formers.
· Utilizes sound judgment in selecting the most efficient machining process based on tooling requirements and tolerances.
· CAD/CAM programming as needed
· Other essential job functions as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in tool and die, die repair, die build, or mold build environments required
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, and engineering documentation
- Experience using precision measuring equipment and inspection tools
- CAD/CAM programming experience preferred
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
