Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer with proven experience in developing clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for complex technical products. This role is critical in ensuring that technical information is effectively communicated to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The selected candidate will support a cloud-based software development project currently in its initial phase and will be responsible for developing comprehensive documentation, including the creation of a project-specific style guide. A technical writing sample (preferably a style guide or similar document) is required for consideration.
This position follows a hybrid work schedule, and local candidates are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and accessible documentation for diverse audiences.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including user guides, API documentation, release notes, SOPs, and related materials.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive documentation style guide for the project.
- Collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and subject matter experts within an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Manage multiple documentation assignments while meeting established deadlines.
- Maintain strong version control and documentation review practices.
- Ensure documentation complies with organizational standards, formatting guidelines, and accessibility requirements.
- Interview subject matter experts to gather, analyze, and distill complex technical information.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of technical writing experience, preferably within a government or technology environment.
- Expertise in MS Word, Google Docs, Confluence, or similar documentation tools.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, SnagIT, or similar tools for visual content creation.
- Experience using Git or other version control systems (contributor or read-only level).
- Experience with documentation platforms such as GitBook or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of Scrum/Agile methodologies.
- Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and software architecture concepts.
- Ability to read and interpret code snippets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proven experience creating and maintaining technical manuals, user guides, and SOP documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interview SMEs and translate technical content into clear documentation.
Highly Desired Qualifications
- Experience with government documentation standards and accessibility compliance.
- Familiarity with diagramming tools such as Lucidchart, Draw.io, or similar.
- Basic knowledge of programming languages or IT systems.
- Experience with UX writing principles.
- Knowledge of Markdown and HTML/CSS.
- Experience writing documentation for software products (SaaS, desktop, or mobile applications).
