Southeast Health is a 420-bed not-for-profit tertiary referral center in Dothan, Alabama, operating a full-service cardiovascular program with interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and radiology labs on campus. The health system is seeking a board-certified Electrophysiology Cardiologist to serve as Medical Director of its EP program, combining advanced procedural practice with physician leadership across a multidisciplinary cardiology service line.
Schedule
Day shift, Monday through Friday, with call expectations based on EP program needs. This is a full-time, permanent position at 1.0 FTE.
Compensation
$500,000 to $700,000 annually, commensurate with experience and leadership scope.
What You'll Do
The Medical Director provides clinical and operational leadership for electrophysiology services within the broader cardiovascular service line. In the clinical role, the physician delivers comprehensive EP care including complex device management, ablation procedures, and arrhythmia management for a patient population drawn from across a 75-mile regional referral area. The role carries procedural and patient care expectations consistent with a full-time EP practice.
On the leadership side, the Medical Director works directly with hospital administration on the scope and growth of EP services, equipment planning including mapping systems and lab configuration, space design, and workflow optimization. The physician establishes and monitors quality metrics and patient outcome benchmarks, leads quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, and supports development and implementation of departmental clinical protocols and pathways. The Medical Director also participates in financial oversight responsibilities including program growth analysis, resource utilization, and operational efficiency planning.
The position requires maintaining and advancing referral relationships with cardiologists, primary care physicians, and regional partners across the service area. The Medical Director participates in multidisciplinary cardiovascular committee work, contributes to short- and long-term service line strategy, and communicates clinical and operational priorities to hospital leadership. Fostering a collaborative, high-performing clinical environment across the cardiology team is a core expectation of the role.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited program
- Board certification or active board eligibility in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology
- Active Alabama medical license or eligibility to obtain prior to start
- DEA registration or eligibility
- Ability to obtain medical staff privileges within the organization
- ACLS certification
- Demonstrated clinical EP procedural competency including device implantation and complex ablation
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a physician leadership, medical director, or service line leadership role
- Experience with EP lab program development, equipment procurement, or service line expansion
- Established referral network in the Southeast Alabama or Wiregrass region
- Familiarity with quality metric reporting frameworks and cardiovascular outcomes programs
- Experience participating in strategic planning or financial oversight within a hospital-employed group
