What You'll Do
This role manages the Accounts Receivable and Cost Reporting functions for the health system, reporting on hospital and professional accounts receivable performance, reimbursement analysis, denial and collection trends, governmental and commercial payer receivables, Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting, supplemental payment programs, and regulatory reimbursement reporting at both the organization and service line level. The manager provides leadership and direction to identify trends in receivables collection and cash flow optimization, while leading accurate reimbursement reporting and regulatory compliance, and develops reporting tools and analytics that improve collections, reduce aged accounts receivable balances, and strengthen reimbursement accuracy. This includes continuous monitoring of days in accounts receivable, aging trends, denial rates, net collection performance, cash collections, credit balances, denials and recoupments, and payer specific performance metrics, along with developing and maintaining dashboards, scorecards, and reporting tools that support leadership decision making. The role analyzes payer performance, collection barriers, denial patterns, underpayments, and reimbursement opportunities, recommending operational improvements at both the organization wide and service line level. The manager oversees preparation, coordination, review, and audit support for Medicare, Medicaid, and other governmental cost reports, and coordinates reimbursement activities with revenue cycle leaders, operational departments, external reimbursement consultants, auditors, and governmental agencies. Additional responsibilities include managing reimbursement analyses related to Medicare settlement estimates, Medicaid reimbursement programs, DSH, UPL, supplemental payment programs, bad debt reimbursement, and uncompensated care funding, monitoring changing reimbursement regulations and communicating financial impact to leadership, and developing reimbursement forecasts to support budgeting and long range planning. The manager maintains internal controls and documentation related to reimbursement reporting and accounts receivable processes, leads interactions with financial statement auditors for accounts receivable and payer settlement activities, and prepares reports, executive summaries, and presentations for leadership, committees, auditors, and governing bodies. The role also participates in process improvement initiatives focused on cash acceleration, denial prevention, reimbursement optimization, and automation, and serves as a key member of the Finance leadership team, working closely with Revenue Cycle leadership on shared initiatives.
