Ilmor Engineering provides design, development, testing, and manufacturing of performance engines and parts for major manufacturers and racing teams throughout the world. Our clients include automotive, marine, IndyCar, ARCA, and NASCAR among others.

Our team utilizes their expertise and ingenuity to create innovative original concepts or provide creative solutions to existing high-performance designs.
Essential Job Functions
- Assemble top-tier racing engines to exact specifications and engineering standards.
- Measure, inspect, and validate components to extremely close tolerances.
- Set and verify part clearances in accordance with design documents and build sheets.
- Confirm part conformity to stock lists, drawings, and blueprints using advanced measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators).
- Utilize precision measuring equipment, specialty tools, and standard hand tools with expert-level proficiency.
- Assemble systems and subassemblies following established engine‑building practices or engineering directives.
- Communicate effectively with the Build Shop Manager and Engineering teams regarding technical matters, discrepancies, or component issues.
- Conduct crack testing and part inspections using approved non‑destructive testing methods.
- Maintain comprehensive engine build records, including component history, measurements, clearances, and configuration data.
- Perform additional tasks as required to support racing program objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of professional precision engine building experience, ideally within a high-performance, racing, or motorsports environment.
- Proven ability to build engines to extremely tight tolerances with full accountability for measurement accuracy and verification.
- Advanced knowledge of engine systems, internal components, assembly practices, and failure point indicators.
- Proficiency using precision metrology tools (micrometers, dial bore gauges, height gauges, etc.).
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify irregularities or nonconformances during inspection and assembly.
- Experience with non‑destructive testing methods such as dye penetrant or magnetic particle inspection.
- Excellent documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to uphold the highest standards of quality, reliability, and craftsmanship under strict deadlines.
- Ability to work overtime during the racing season, which can occasionally include very late nights with very little notice.
Desired Qualifications
- Vocational Certification or Associates Degree in a related subject such as Automotive Performance, Automotive Technician, or related field would be preferred
Nuts & Bolts
- This is a full-time non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime.
- Extensive overtime may be required during the racing season, which can climb to 7 days per week during peak seasons
