Position Overview

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician I for the Madden Mental Health Center located in Hines, Illinois to perform beginning level duties on an assigned shift on an assigned unit for the care, treatment and rehabilitation of mentally ill individuals. Assists in providing physical care, developing self help skills and supervision of skills of daily living.  Participates in personal and monitoring of patients during crisis situations. Performs simple nursing procedures. Participates in training to increase job skills.

Essential Functions

  • Performs beginning level duties on an assigned shift on an assigned unit for the care, treatment and rehabilitation of mentally ill patients.
  • Assists in providing physical care, developing self-help skills and supervision of skills of daily living.
  • Performs beginning level program duties.
  • Participates in personal and monitoring of patients during crisis situations to include appropriate intervention, limit setting, redirection, time out and full-length restraints. 
  • Performs simple nursing procedures (Temperature Pulse Respiration (TPR’S), blood pressure (BP), weights, collects specimens for lab, etc.). 
  • Participates in training to increase job skills. 
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires successful completion of a comprehensive training program at the Mental Health Technician Trainee level.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to the patient or others.
  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Requires the ability to perform heavy lifting, carrying and pushing.
  • Requires the ability to travel in performance of job duties.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
