The Illinois Department of Agriculture is seeking individuals, for temporary employment not to exceed 6 months, for the Illinois State Fair summer season. Temporary employees are needed for the following area: Customer Service. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to work in a constantly changing fast paced environment. Successful candidates will be individuals who can work promptly and efficiently in order to maintain that the Illinois State Fair, as well as non-fair events, run effectively. Essential Functions
- Under immediate supervision, and on a temporary basis for a period not to exceed six months, performs a variety of unskilled manual labor and/or simple clerical duties. Provides Customer Service to the general public, vendors, competitors/participants, and volunteers regarding the Illinois State fair (ISF) and events that happen prior to, during, or after the ISF.
- Responsible for assisting the ISF office with customer sales and services.
- Performs data entry or other computer work using computer programs specific to the ISF as well as with office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Performs various office/clerical functions.
- Assists with various operational functions of the ISF.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight years of elementary school.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers experience working with and assisting the public with general inquiries.
- Prefers experience with basic office equipment and computer programs.
- Prefers elementary knowledge of basic math and alphabetizing.
- Prefers experience with cash handling.
- Prefers experience maintaining satisfactory working relationships with management, other employees, and members of the public.
- Prefers experience with understanding and following written and oral instructions.
Conditions of Employment
- Must be able to pass a name-based sex offender registry check.
- Must be able to work all 11 days of the Illinois State Fair, which may include nights and weekends.
- Must be able to work for up to 10 hours a day or more, possibly outside.
- This position may require a valid driver’s license.

We are looking to fill positions in the area outlined below:
* Credentials Working with the Credentials Office in support of areas such as credentials, Camping, Golf Carts and Mega/Jumbo Pass including cash handling
* Competitive Events Data entry of all competitive event applications and interaction with applicants to these events including cash handling
* Support Services Assisting in the print shop, the mail room and the front reception desk
* Space Rental Measuring locations for vendor exibitor spacing, customer service and cash handling - Must be 18 or older with a valid drivers license.
* Press Information Office Working with the media tent for the Illinois State Fair; assisting department PIO officer with media related issues for the fair.
* Trailer Parking Assisting owners to park their trailers in a pre-set parking configuration
* Budget and Fiscal Data entry for payroll, filing and assisting with general office tasks.
* County Fairs & Horseracing sell parking passes to the horsemen in the backstretch.

Applicants scoring 1 or less will only be contacted if necessary to fill any vacant positions.
