Position Overview
This position is accountable for assisting the Crash Records Section Manager in monitoring the production operations of the department’s official crash records system through proper use of data processing applications and techniques combined with effective utilization of the Crash Information System (CIS).
Essential Functions
- Assists the Crash Records Section Manager in developing and implementing policy for the administration of the department’s safety responsibility, crash reporting, and crash information programs including the receipt of crash reports, the processing of files, and the identification of motorists in non-compliance with the Safety Responsibility Law.
- Assists in coordinating the crash reporting and crash information programs on an intra-agency basis with the Secretary of State (SOS), the Illinois State Police (ISP), and over 1,000 local police and engineering agencies.
- Plans for efficient use of resources by devising new procedures and establishing regulations for improved methods of processing crash case files.
- Assists in conferring with technical personnel throughout the department regarding the comprehensive integration and coordination of Crash Information System (CIS).
- Assists in coordinating management studies of the safety responsibility, crash reporting, and crash information programs by the establishment of valid quantitative standards of production and maintains and reviews production standards as necessary.
- Makes investigative studies of problems arising out of the safety responsibility and crash reporting programs in order to improve current methods used in Illinois. Recommends technical changes for
incorporating improvements into CIS. - Assists in developing instructional materials used in the training of staff and police personnel in state and local agencies throughout Illinois regarding their interaction with crash reporting and crash information programs of the department.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in public, business administration, communications, computer applications, OR completion of two years of college PLUS two years of experience with monitoring data processing applications and techniques, OR six years of experience with monitoring data processing applications and techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with crash data coding.
- Working knowledge of the Safety Responsibility Law.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
