Position Overview
As the Construction Administrator, you will be the forefront of ensuring our correctional centers are not only secure but also well-maintained and equipped for effective rehabilitation programs. You will help lead a dedicated team and work collaboratively with various stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that uphold the highest standards of facility management, safety, and compliance. Job Responsibilities
- Serves as the Construction Administrator for the Department of Corrections (IDOC).
- Directs and monitors staff in the development of new construction, renovations of existing construction, and the energy conservation program at IDOC.
- Serves as full line supervisor.
- Serves as a liaison for construction and maintenance related operations under his/her control, maintaining working relationships with IDOC Jail and Detentions Standards Unit and outside entities such as the Concordia Court Complex landlord, architectural and engineering firms serving municipalities and counties, serving departments, and the Capital Development Board ensuring compliance with applicable statutes, policies and procedures, and to private industry entities in regards to incentive programs and energy management.
- Plans for the efficacious utilization of program resources, i.e., fiscal management, personnel management, budget analysis and preparation, and program development.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, or engineering.
- Requires four (4) years of professional administrative experience in construction management.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
- Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience related to construction project or related material ordering.
- Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience preparing or reviewing of architectural plans or engineering assessments.
- Prefers at least two (2) years working experience in a corrections or detention workspace.
- Prefers at least five (5) years professional experience directing and supervising maintenance personnel.
- Prefers at least five (5) years professional experience forecasting budget and allocating resources.
- Prefers at least one (1) year professional experience working with Illinois Procurement Code.
- Prefers at least two (2) years professional experience collaborating with the Illinois Capital Development Board.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
