Essential Functions
- Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Physical Tests Unit.
- Establishes and supervises the implementation of the district standard of practice relating to material production inspection, manufactured product inspection, material usage, and material acceptance documentation review and validation.
- Provides technical expertise and conducts research relating to manufactured products including their specifications, appropriate use, and acceptance.
- Reviews plans, specifications, and special provisions, and makes recommendations prior to letting.
- Ensures substantial compliance with department policies and specifications relating to aggregates and manufactured products.
- Provides timely and practical solutions to aggregate and manufactured product problems encountered during the construction and maintenance of roadways and structures.
- Assigns, trains, motivates, and evaluates staff.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Five years of experience in civil engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering.
- Extensive knowledge of manufactured products and aggregates.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
- Occasional districtwide travel with overnight stays.
- Valid driver's license.
- Overtime as needed.
- Ability to do outdoor work in a variety of conditions including but not limited to construction sites, material production facilities, and roads open to traffic.
- Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
