Job Summary

The Program Coordinator for Academic Support Communities will act as the primary point of contact for the Hope Chicago Organization while providing leadership and guidance to the academic support communities programs within University College. The academic support communities provide dedicated academic and career support and experiences for students involved in college access programs and community-based organizations such as, but not limited to Hope Chicago, Phoenix Pact, One Goal, Bottom Line, etc. This position oversees day-to-day operations, administrative functions, program activities, and student services for the academic support communities. This position provides leadership and guidance to the staff working with academic support community programs. These communities are structured to support underrepresented students and students of color at Illinois State University. This position serves to conceptualize new programming enhancing the academic experiences of the participants, as well as assist in the development and implementation of goals, operating procedures, programmatic efforts, and outcome assessment for the academic support communities. This position works under the guidance of the Associate Director of Academic Enhancement in University College to collaborate with many stakeholders across campus, community members, family members and support individuals. The incumbent works closely with university faculty, staff, administrators, as well as community leaders and professionals. This position supervises 2 full-time staff members, graduate assistants, and student employees.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$50,000 - $55,000/annual

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree (Transcript required - may be unofficial)
2. Must have at least one (1) year of combined full-time or part-time work experience which would include a combination of at least 6 months experience working with college access programs and at least 6 months experience with a higher education community-based organization
3. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and produce quality work under deadlines
4. Exemplary intercultural fluency through excellent communication skills including verbal, non-verbal, listening, problem solving, public presentations, and teamwork
5. Working knowledge of basic office software (Microsoft Office Suite).
6. Demonstrated ability and experience working in an inclusive environment, and a commitment to personal growth and learning that promotes the richness of a global campus.
7. Excellent organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience working with college access programs and community-based organizations on a college campus.
2. Familiarity with Illinois State University and University College policies and procedures and state and federal law, in particular the Ethics Standards for all employees of the State of Illinois
3. Ability to work independently and without intense supervision, but also effectively contribute to a team with a learner-centered and service-oriented philosophy

Work Hours

Core work hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with occasional evening or weekend commitments for certain activities, programs, and special events

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

2. Remain at a workstation for extended periods.
3. Move above in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
