What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Attorney position at Illinois State Bar Association?
The Mertes Law Firm, P.C. provides litigation associates with an extraordinarily exciting and rewarding work opportunity. We handle particularly important cases, including a large number of wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases on behalf of plaintiffs. Our practice concentrations also include major criminal cases, including several murder and Class X felony cases, and domestic cases. We have appeared many times before the Illinois Appellate Courts and Illinois Supreme Court. Litigation associates of this law firm work on major, important and impactful cases every day of their careers.
Our law firm is comprised of several attorneys and a large and highly experienced litigation staff. We use the very latest technology to enhance our practice. We are a fully paperless, electronic law firm. Though our law firm requires in-office, in-person employment of its attorneys, our technological capabilities enable hybrid/remote work. We provide our associates with all of the tools necessary to successfully practice throughout the State of Illinois
Our physical office is located in northwestern Illinois. Our geographic practice area consists of all counties in northern Illinois, from Cook County in the east to Rock Island County in the west, and everywhere in between. A significant percentage of our cases, however, arise in Whiteside, Lee, Ogle and Carroll counties.
Litigation Associates will be expected to conduct legal research and analyses using various resources including Westlaw's latest AI models. They will draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs; prepare and review legal correspondence and contracts; represent clients in court hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings; negotiate settlements and agreements on behalf of clients; conduct case investigations and collaborate with colleagues and provide legal advice and guidance.
Applicants for this position must be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois. Litigation experience is preferred, but not required. This is a full-time job.
