Function / Position Summary

The Orthopedic Impairment Related Services Leader will support the Orthopedic Impairment (OI) Related Services Department to assist with the provision of OI services and support to students, families, and schools.  They will provide support and guidance in areas such as: best practices, mentoring, coaching  and training for new and returning staff. This leader will support colleagues through problem solving and advocacy of resources to perform their duties as Orthopedic Impairment staff.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Maintain a caseload of IEP and 504 students as an Orthopedic Itinerant teacher.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies relevant to the Orthopedic Itinerant work (i.e. ICRE).
  • Identify students appropriate for adapted drivers education in collaboration with school based team and families, and organizing the services through our community partner (i.e. STRIVE).
  • Facilitate Department Forums, Collaboration Meetings, and other meetings as needed and  Support the work of the School Department Committee with the Assistant Director - Operations.
  • Provide professional learning, coaching and mentoring to all district and contract Orthopedic Impairment staff.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Operations regarding daily Orthopedic Impairment operations, SD committee meeting agenda items, and department needs through regular meetings.
  • Collaborate to create and maintain alignment with the District's Strategic Plan and Specialized Student Services Department goals.
  • Participate in the interview process for hiring new district and contract staff.
  • Work collaboratively with university placement coordinators and the U-46 Teacher Leader for Teacher Effectiveness Initiative to coordinate student placements for practicum students.
  • Review and provide input regarding staffing allocations and assignments.
  • Assist in the planning of professional development activities for the department, including setting up professional development courses in -the district digital platform.
  • Maintain and update the related services digital platforms (i.e. intranet, googlesite, etc.).
  • Review and make recommendations in collaboration with the SD Committee for materials, supplies and assessments; technology for department.
  • Problem solve specific caseload questions, unique student situations, attend IEP meetings as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • LBS1
  • Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Minimum 5 years of school-based experience working with students with disabilities

Experience   

  • Knowledge of school orthopedic impairment assessments
  • Knowledge of current state laws/regulations as it pertains to orthopedic impairment staff and proficiency standards
  • Leadership skills in working with individuals and groups (initiating individual or group discussion, active listening, clarifying and facilitating interactions, sharing of ideas, etc.)
  • Skills in communicating effectively with staff and families regarding.
  • Knowledge of Google Suite products/Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
  • Ability to learn new technology/software preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with unscheduled interruptions

Physical Demands

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing

  • Lifting may be required as needed
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability  to work with many interruptions and schedule changes throughout the school day

Terms of Employment

  • This is a 9-month position.
  • Salary and benefits are established by the Board of Education
  • The starting salary for this role is $60,689.
