What are the responsibilities and job description for the Post Secondary Success Instructional Coach position at Illinois School District U-46?
- Work closely with administrators, teachers, and support staff to ensure that staff have professional learning in AVID and high impact strategies and practices.
- Support the instructional development of teachers in understanding the U-46 AVID curriculum and assessments, the Framework for Teaching, and data analysis.
- Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
- Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District
- Instructional Clarity framework.
- Assist teachers in understanding U-46 Strategic Plan and aligning our instructional practices in APEX/online credit recovery, Freshman Seminar, MS Advisory, AVID, and other courses with the plan.
- Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
- Implement and maintain the U-46 PaCE Framework.
- Represents the needs of the AVID, APEX/online credit recovery, Freshman Seminar, and Middle School Advisory at Equity & Innovation, Teaching & Learning, Curriculum & Instruction and other District and school meetings.
- Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
- Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
- Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success.
- Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
- Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
- Contribute to the development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
- Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
- Stay updated on best practices in AVID, high impact strategies, gifted, accelerated, data analysis and MTSS frameworks to continually enhance the effectiveness of all enrichment, interventions and support services.
- Plans and coordinates professional development for AVID, APEX/online credit recovery, MS Advisory, Post Secondary and Freshman Success Teams during monthly meetings, on district collaboration days and on professional practice days on academic, social emotional, equity-related, and post secondary topics and practices.
- Collaborates with the Department of Post Secondary Success on all post secondary activities, committees, and workshops.
- Identify and implement new data tools and strategies that further the District’s goals of improving graduation rates and readiness indicators.
- Provide staff development and appropriate information regarding online credit recovery, Freshman Seminar, AVID and Middle School Advisory as requested by the administration.
- Serve as a peer consulting teacher if/when matched with a potential Participating Teacher to discuss the Peer Assistance Review (PAR) Program, to establish mutually agreed upon performance goals, develop a Professional Development Plan (PDP), and to develop a process for the successful completion of the PAR program. The process will be confidential and non-evaluative.
- As a potential Peer Consulting Teacher (PCT), conduct a minimum of 5 observations per semester of the Participating Teacher during classroom instruction and provide specific, immediate feedback after each visit, including maintaining a written log of contacts and specific support given to each Participating Teacher as well as monitoring progress and providing periodic written and/or oral reports to the Participating Teacher for discussion and review.
- Participate in meetings and prepare and discuss reports to share with the PAR panel upon request.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Plan and implement new staff training at New Teacher Orientation.
- Takes an active approach to be visible and accessible to our staff, students and families.
- Participates, when necessary, on Continuous Improvement Team/Leadership Teams.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Certified in any specific teaching area
- Experience with data analysis in an educational or similar setting.
- Familiarity with MTSS frameworks and evidence-based enrichment and intervention strategies.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data and communicate insights effectively.
- Collaborative mindset and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs.
- Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.

Function / Position Summary
The Post Secondary Department is dedicated to supporting all students in college and career readiness. We seek an Instructional Coach who will play a key role in this mission by supporting development of curriculum, coaching teacher in the AVID elective, Freshman Seminar, MS Advisory or other courses overseen by Post Secondary Success, supporting schools in using AVID instructional practices, and assisting APEX/online credit recovery teachers in using the U-46 Instructional Clarity Model.
