Job Summary: The Illinois Mine Subsidence Insurance Fund (IMSIF) is seeking a part-time Rodman / Survey Assistant to join our team in our Caseyville, Illinois office. The Rodman supports the Surveyor in conducting level-line mine subsidence surveys for both cause-and-origin evaluations and ongoing monitoring purposes.
IMSIF is a taxable enterprise created by Statute to operate as a private solution to a public problem. The purpose of the Fund is to assure financial resources are available to owners of property damaged by mine subsidence. Essential duties and Responsibilities:
The rodman will:
Ø Use an invar survey rod and a metric pocket rod while assisting the surveyor in conducting a precise level line survey and obtain elevations on various points within the survey.
Ø Under the direction of the surveyor, set up an initial survey as prescribed in the Survey Request. This may include drilling and driving inserts in power poles, drilling and setting PK Nails in concrete, drilling and setting anchors and screws in various points on a structure, and installing deep seated (SP's), in preparation of the survey.
Ø Use various hand and power tools in the course of daily work, including drills, power augers, saws, hammers, drivers, shovels, tape measures, etc.
Ø Assist in the gathering of soil samples.
Ø Handle and store equipment in the truck and storage shed and maintain equipment and supplies in sufficient quantities and keeping said equipment in a safe operating condition.
Ø Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty correctly. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Ø - High School graduate. College classes in math, surveying, computer knowledge, and computer aided drafting encouraged, but not required.
Ø - Ability to read and comprehend documents such as Survey Requests, safety rules and regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write notes legibly.
Ø - Must be willing to travel within the State.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
