The Council provides legal, labor, and advocacy services aimed at protecting members’ rights, working conditions, and professional integrity.

Role Description The Attorney role is a full-time, on-site position based in Springfield, IL. This role involves providing legal representation and advice to union members in matters related to labor and employment law, including grievances, disciplinary actions, contract disputes, and administrative hearings. Day-to-day responsibilities include legal research, drafting motions and briefs, reviewing contracts and policies, and preparing cases for arbitration or other proceedings. The Attorney will also participate in negotiations, attend meetings with employers and union representatives, and help develop strategies to protect and advance members’ rights. Collaboration with labor staff, responding to member inquiries, and occasional travel for hearings or negotiations are also part of this role.

Qualifications

  • Prior litigation and labor experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
