Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire two Site Technician 2's at the Mississippi River State Fish and Wildlife Area . This position will perform maintenance of vehicles and equipment, maintain grounds and recreational programs, operating heavy equipment and vehicles with a GCWR of 26,001 or more pounds, maintain hunter check stations, clean restrooms, mow grass, plow snow and at times serve as a lead worker. Mississippi River State Fish and Wildlife Area's main emphasis is wetland management and it consists of 24,000 acres scattered along 75 miles of both Illinois and Mississippi rivers. Essential Functions

  • Under direct supervision, regularly carries out semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of site grounds, site buildings and equipment associated with site operations at Mississippi River Area
  • Maintains various equipment used in the operation and maintenance of the site
  • Performs routine tasks related to recreational outdoor activities
  • Monitors and repairs site equipment and facilities
  • Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • Assists in assuring the safety and security of the site and visiting public
  • Performs minor repairs to plumbing/heating/air conditioning equipment and/or electrical systems
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
  • One (1) year of experience following written and oral instructions.
  • One (1) year of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
  • Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
  • Requires abiliity to walk over rough and broken terrain.

Charged with preserving, protecting, and promoting Illinois’ natural resources, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) employees oversee water, wildlife, wetlands and oil wells, parks, historic sites – and everything in between. Office of Land Management

OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.

Work Hours: Jan 1st - Aug 15th, Mon-Fri, 7am-3pm w/ 1/2 lunch for normal field season; Aug 16th - Oct 15th, Wed-Sun, 7am-3pm w/ 1/2 lunch for pumping season; Oct 16th - Dec 31st, Wed-Sun, 4am-noon w/ 1/2 lunch for duck hunting season
