Job Description:

Summary

Database Reporting Analyst is primarily responsible for developing queries and reports to progress long-term solutions for customer self-service and support ad-hoc reporting requests. This position will interact directly with requestors and requires a professional, customer-focused approach to providing information following the standards for the Office of Institutional Research.

Compensation for the Database Reporting Analyst is $50,377.60 - $56,680.00 annually.

Essential Functions

  • Gather and interpret data needs from users, translate requirements using appropriate reporting and data use standards, and document final requirements in a manner that is clear to users, provides an internal record, and fosters user understanding of data policies.
  • Utilize Pyramid Analytics (or, the college’s business intelligence reporting application) and the college’s enterprise data warehouse to develop queries and/or reports, sometimes in conjunction with standardized reports, to fulfill requests for student-, course-, and program-related statistics, mailing lists, and review of other constituent data.
  • Ensure the college’s ability to meet mandatory state and federal reporting requirements and deadlines by cultivating expert content knowledge, regularly reviewing data elements, and maintaining internal process documentation to produce reports on enrollment, course offerings, completions, credit hours, and program data.
  • Ensure a high level of accuracy, security, consistency, and clarity of presentation in ad-hoc and standard research requests.
  • Create and maintain reporting standards and recommend related database objects as necessary to address emerging user requirements.
  • Design and maintain custom, on-demand summary reports using the college’s business intelligence reporting applications and enterprise data warehouse.
  • Design and maintain custom, on-demand record-level reports required in the development of new database objects using MS Access, Excel and/or SQL Server Manager Studio.
  • Assist Business Intelligence analysts in planning and executing data self-service models to meet customer needs through design, review, and maintenance of reports and dashboards.
  • Serve as a liaison between Technology Services and Institutional Research.
  • Support and expand the IR Office’s information infrastructure by supporting the Business Intelligence Analysts with data validation, measure creation, and data model testing.
  • Support the annual planning and budgeting, academic program review, and strategic planning processes with data and analysis.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform satisfactorily the essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Statistics, Data Science, Library & Information Sciences, or a Social Sciences field.
  • Experience with query creation in Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient with standard statistical processes, database management, and data analysis practices.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) or more years of related work experience, including while as an undergraduate and graduate student, in data analysis, database reporting, or data management.
  • Experience with data warehousing methods.
  • Experience using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Experience with business intelligence reporting tools.
  • Strong understanding of the use and application of data within an institution of higher education.
  • Experience working in an institution of higher education, particularly in the institutional research function.
  • Familiarity with federal and/or state compliance reporting processes within public higher education.
