Position Title: High School Biology/Life Science Teacher

Summary: Under the general supervision of the School Director, to develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including Biology, General science, and electives courses related to STEM education, which develops students' Engineering and Science practices, and problem-solving, as well as an understanding of the application of science in the solution of practical problems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred) from an accredited institution.
  • Valid NJ Certification (CE or CEAS) in Biology.
  • Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in educational technology and software tools.
  • Maintains confidentiality in school-related matters.
  • Understanding of child development and diverse learner needs.
  • Knowledge of education laws, curriculum, and instructional strategies.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of science subjects.
  • Committed to professional growth and self-evaluation.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Before employment, the following must be addressed:

  • A criminal history background check is required to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense.
  • Provide evidence that health can adequately fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation under 42 U.S.C. 12101 and by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
  • Pass the state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3.

The Biology Teacher is responsible for delivering science instruction aligned with district curriculum and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), fostering critical and creative thinking in a safe and supportive classroom environment. They design engaging lessons and hands-on activities that connect scientific concepts to real-life applications, while ensuring proper use and care of scientific equipment and materials. The teacher continuously assesses student progress, adapts instruction to meet individual needs—including those with special needs—and maintains accurate records of student achievement and attendance. They stay current with educational developments through professional learning, encourage parental involvement, uphold school behavior standards, collaborate with colleagues, and manage instructional resources and equipment effectively.

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the School Director and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Equipment:Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
