THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (TITLE 5), Position Description Number T5935000 and is part of the IL HRO AR, National Guard.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience, education, or training to perform progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector to be considered for this position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-7 Level MUST possess at least 1-year of experience in the next lower-level grade level GS-6 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector; experience or training performing technical work which requires knowledge of the procedures, established guidelines, and techniques involved in carrying out the work of the organization such as: preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and maintaining records.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 5 Excepted Service, will be in the following manner and sequence:- The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be candidates who match through the Priority Placement Program (PPP).
- The SECOND area of consideration will be Veterans' Preference (VP) eligible.
- The THIRD area of consideration will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
- The FOURTH area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
- The FIFTH area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.

Responsibilities:
As a ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (TITLE 5), GS-0303-7, you will provide technical and administrative assistance for programs within the HRO area of responsibility.Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
- Maintains the appointment schedule for the HRO and the DHRO. Schedules appointments and meetings, independently, based upon personal knowledge of their workload and current issues of importance.
- Advises the HRO and the DHRO of scheduled appointments and furnishes information from files or schedules briefings by others in preparation for scheduled meetings.
- Prepares required slides for meetings.
- Receives visitors and telephone calls for the HRO.
- Professionally handles business matters and gives out administrative and readily available substantive information to callers in supervisor's absence, refers matters to the appropriate branch and maintains a record of events including official visitors, decisions to be made upon return, unfinished business requiring attention, and related matters.
- Assists in the development of policy letters which may require researching applicable directives from higher authority, to ensure that no conflict will result from issuance of new policy.
- Coordinates draft policy with other staff directorates prior to submission for final review and approval.
- Advises other administrative personnel of latest HRO directives regarding administrative procedures.
- Reviews incoming correspondence, publications, regulations, and directives, which may affect the HRO, or programs within the HRO's purview relative to both the Army and Air National Guard.
- Establishes controls on accountable mail and determines distribution and routing of incoming correspondence while retaining items of special importance for the personal attention of the HRO and the DHRO.
- Provides limited technical assistance to Human Resources Specialists within the office and tomanagers, supervisors, and technicians of the serviced organization for a wide range of humanresources matters.
