THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0483000 and is part of the IL AASF 1, National Guard.

Qualifications:

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:

  • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
  • The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
  • The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
  • The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
  • The FIFTH area of consideration will be U.S. Citizens.

Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank requirement of PFC & May not exceed the rank of SFC.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. WG-08 Level - MUST possess experience or training in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components, and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies, and components, e.g., such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing, and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. WG-05 Level - MUST possess experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

Responsibilities:

As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-5/8/10, you will be responsibility for the performance of the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of assemblies, system, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions on assigned and transient aircraft using systematic fault-isolation methods.
  • Identify problem areas and determine the extent of repairs required through testing, visual checks, and instrument readings.
  • Perform unscheduled maintenance actions to correct aircraft system deficiencies.
  • Accomplish adjustments to related systems affected by maintenance or repair actions.
  • Conduct pre-inspection, daily, pre-flight, post-flight, and special inspections in accordance with technical requirements.
  • Perform ground functional tests of aircraft systems following maintenance or repair.
  • Service aircraft with oil, fuel, hydraulic fluid, and de-icing fluid in accordance with technical guidance.
  • Launch and recover assigned and transient aircraft and perform required inspections prior to takeoff.
  • Use test equipment, gauges, and instruments to evaluate aircraft system performance.
  • Conduct fuel contamination checks and oil sampling to assess aircraft system condition.
  • Verify proper operation of hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and power systems using applicable measuring devices.
  • Interpret and apply technical manuals, inspection criteria, and maintenance instructions to aircraft maintenance tasks.
  • Follow prescribed inspection and maintenance procedures to ensure aircraft airworthiness and safety.
  • Use hand tools, powered tools, and ground support equipment to accomplish aircraft maintenance, repair, and servicing tasks.
