Pastoral Care Director
Full Time, Exempt
The Pastoral Care Director will provide spiritual leadership to residents, families, and staff in this
community. The Director will be charged with developing and sustaining structures to advance
Mission, Values, Vision, and spiritual life of the IHM Senior Living Community and all staff.
Responsibilities:
1. Serve on the administrative team to promote the integration of the IHM’s Mission, Values and
Vision in guiding behaviors, practices, and decisions in all entities and among all colleagues
as well as meaningfulness, purposefulness and belonging in the lives of residents within this
community.
2. Promote, facilitate, and communicate the availability and familiarity of chaplains and pastoral
care throughout the campus and community from the stance of accompanying residents as
they progress through the continuum of care.
3. Consistently demonstrate IHM’s values to all internal and external customers (residents,
visitors, volunteers, and staff) of IHM Senior Living Community. Create and maintain an
atmosphere of a warm and calming environment throughout the community. Actively
participates with direct care as needed.
4. Coordinate an organized program for the care of staff with attention to their spiritual, mental
and physical well-being.
5. Promote spiritual formation and empowerment of colleagues as spiritual care caregivers.
6. Maintain confidentiality regarding all resident care information.
7. Conduct regular Pastoral Care Team meetings with Pastoral Care staff and volunteers.
8. With Pastoral Care team, review advanced directives, spiritual needs and complete a
spiritual assessment with outcomes for resident and family participation within the first
seven days of admission to long-term care.
Qualifications:
1. Formal Clinical Pastoral Education, Spiritual Direction or other related
Pastoral/Theological education required. Certification through the National Association of
Catholic Chaplains or other National body of certification eligibility preferred.
2. Five years pastoral care experience with demonstrated ability in leadership and
management.
3. Lead by example and possess superior customer service skills and professionalism.
4. Geriatric, hospice, rehabilitation or other health care experience required.
5. Awareness of medical, moral, Catholic Faith tradition and other faith traditions,
gerontology and a sensitivity to diverse cultures.
6. Ability to learn, understand and support IHM Mission and values.
7. Ability to work collaboratively as the Pastoral Care team leader with team members and
directors.
8. Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills to drive collaboration,
commitment and productivity when working with cross-functional teams, residents and
families.
