Salary: $75,000-$90,000Were seeking a talented Packaging Production Designer to join our team!The Production Designer is responsible for converting design files into print-ready files. While honoring the designers intent in all ways possible, you will refine designs into mechanical artwork files sufficient for printing with print suppliers and public retail distribution. You will also be responsible for routing all artwork internally to cross-functional partners and iterating on all artwork, per cross-functional markup and art direction.With extensive knowledge of commercial packaging and retail displays (PDQs etc), the Production Designer will consult with designers throughout the process to ensure that all artwork is tailored to the manufacturing technique. You will oversee their projects from concept through mass production, reviewing supplier proofs, color chips, and prototypes to ensure the highest quality results for error-free, compliant packaging on time.Apparel experience is nice to have.Responsibilities:File Preparation: Construct and revise final, print-ready mechanical files for vendors.Technical Adjustments: Perform expert photo retouching, color correction, and apply ICC profiles.Quality Control: Proofread all artwork for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with guidelines (legal, brand, technical) to ensure accuracy of copy, color, and content. Should understand how materials can affect color and deliver detailed feedback to suppliers to achieve desired results.Collaboration: Work closely with designers, brand managers, and production teams to meet deadlines and project goals. When faced with obstacles, work independently and effectively attain clarification to push projects forward.Proofing: Check printer-supplied proofs to ensure accuracy when compared to released artwork. Route all artwork internally and implement markup changes without error.Qualifications:Expert proficiency inAdobe Creative Suite(InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). Microsoft Office.Strong understanding of print production, color management (CMYK, spot colors), and file formats.Keen eye for detail, typography, layout, and brand consistency.5 years as a Production Artist within a product company, design studio, creative agency, print publication, or from the manufacturing side. (from a product manufacturer, printing company, packaging or display supplier, etc.)Experience preparing and adapting artwork for retail and point of purchase displays, with an understanding of structure, materials, and production constraints.Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative SuiteIntimate knowledge of formal typographic and graphic design convention; ability to supply artwork in various file formats according to the manufacturing processExpert ability to create original manufacturing dielines, iterate and impose artwork onto dielines supplied by suppliersExperience with writing error-free print specifications to release to suppliersFluent in 4-color process, Pantone matching systems, studio color management, color profiles, and proofingStrong hands-on studio skills for prototyping packaging designsBFA/BA in Graphic Design or Media preferred. BA required.
