ControllerLocation: North County San DiegoWork Model: Hybrid – Onsite Monday one additional onsite day of your choiceCompensation: $160K–$170K base Profit SharingPosition OverviewWe are seeking a hands-on, highly technical Controller to own the complete financial statements and one additional entity. This individual will not be siloed, this is a full-spectrum accounting leadership role that touches every part of the P&L and balance sheet, with deep involvement in GAAP interpretation, financial close, audit, and business partnership.You will report to the recently promoted Controller (your trainer and mentor), and lead a dispersed team across San Diego, Florida, and Mexico. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments, loves technical accounting, and brings strong leadership with a balanced, approachable style.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Statements & Close (Primary Accountability)Own full financial statements (P&L and Balance Sheet) for two entities.Review and post journal entries; ensure accruals are accurate and complete.Perform detailed line-by-line income statement reviews.First-level approval on statements → reviewed by Controller → then CFO.Manage a 3-day month-end close.Technical Accounting / GAAPApply and interpret US GAAP with confidence.Draft GAAP memos for new pronouncements and complex areas.Provide guidance on fixed assets, capitalization of software, and judgment-heavy topics.Partner with CFO and external auditors to ensure proper implementation.Audit & Internal ControlsLead preparation of the annual audit PBC list (hundreds of items).Review staff-prepared audit schedules for accuracy.Collaborate closely with external auditors; support SOX/internal audit initiatives.Team LeadershipLead 3 direct reports across CA and FL; provide coaching, development, and performance oversight.Indirectly support a team of ~15 in Mexico.Set quality standards, deadlines, and expectations across shared-services teams (AP, general accounting, and AR for one entity).Cross-Functional PartnershipPartner actively with Manufacturing, HR, Sales, IT/IS, Purchasing, Mexico Operations, and Distribution Centers.Help internal teams understand charges, GL activity, and financial impact.Bring a business-partner mindset, not a checklist mentality.Required Experience & QualificationsPublic accounting experience (preferably Big 4 or strong regional firm).CPA required.Strong understanding of US GAAP, including ability to draft and explain GAAP memos.Experience owning full financial statements in a mid-sized or large company.Experience managing teams (direct indirect).Strong detail orientation with ownership of accuracy and deadlines.Comfortable with Team travel to different sites (3x a year)Industry ExperienceManufacturing industry experience strongly preferred; candidates with exposure to inventory, COGS, or production environments will be prioritized.Adjacent industries such as biotech or industrial environments are acceptable; construction/service-only backgrounds are less aligned.EducationBachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred; Finance acceptable.Unrelated majors not considered for this role.Work Environment & ScheduleHybrid:Mandatory onsite Monday & choose one additional onsite day (2 days total)Month-end close: occasionally up to 8–9pm on one nightStrong emphasis on work-life balance Powered by JazzHRTZk0guTpIB
