Manufacturing Quality Assurance Inspector – Automotive Fabrication What your day looks like

At IFAB Corp, you’ll be the quality gatekeeper across our metal fabrication value stream—from the thunder of heavy stamping to the precision of CNC machining, from weld bays to e‑coat and powder coat lines. You’ll move between cells and labs, measuring, documenting, and communicating what’s in-spec and what needs containment so customers receive flawless parts.

Hands-on inspection across processes

  • Stamping, Forming & Laser: Evaluate parts for splits, cracks, wrinkles, excessive burrs, die marks, distortion, springback, edge quality, flatness, bend angles, and dimensional variation.
  • Welding: Visually verify weld size, location, profile, porosity, undercut, spatter, burn-through, cracks, distortion, fit-up, and overall workmanship.
  • CNC Machining: Check dimensional accuracy, hole diameters, thread quality, surface finish, and CTQ features.
  • E‑Coat & Powder Coat: Confirm coverage, dry film thickness, adhesion, cure, color, gloss, contamination, orange peel, craters, chips, bare spots, and runs using thickness gauges and visual standards.
  • CMM: Run established CMM programs and operate the machine to verify geometry as needed.

Quality control and containment

  • Execute receiving, first-piece/first-off, first article (FAI), in-process, last-piece/last-off, final, rework, and containment inspections.
  • Identify, tag, segregate, and record nonconforming material (NCRs); initiate and support containment to stop defect flow.
  • Contribute to problem-solving using 5‑Why, Fishbone diagrams, Pareto analysis, 8D, and CAPA.

Documentation, traceability, and team support

  • Log inspection outcomes in QMS/ERP, Excel, layout reports, and SPC records with high accuracy.
  • Maintain complete traceability for inspected parts, raw stock, and purchased components.
  • Assist with PPAP, APQP, control plan verification, and customer-specific documentation.
  • Verify incoming raw materials against purchase orders, prints, and Certificates of Conformance.
  • Coach operators on defect recognition, gauge use, inspection criteria, and reaction plans.
  • Support internal, customer, and layered process audits to maintain IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 compliance.

What you bring Required

  • Education: High school diploma or GED; technical certification in manufacturing, quality, metrology, machining, welding, or related field is preferred.
  • Experience: 2 years of quality inspection in manufacturing (automotive/metal fabrication/stamping/welding/machining/coating preferred).
  • Technical: Blueprint and drawing interpretation, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), work instructions, and control plans.
  • Measurement tools: Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, plug/thread/bore/go/no‑go gauges, and fixtures.
  • Systems: Basic computer skills for Microsoft Excel and ERP/QMS data entry.
  • Soft skills: Meticulous attention to detail and sound judgment; able to make confident pass/fail calls under pressure.

Preferred

  • CMM experience or ability to run programs (PC‑DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, CMM Manager).
  • Advanced metrology exposure (FARO Arm, Hexagon arm, optical comparator, profilometer).
  • Weld inspection training/certifications (AWS, CWI, CAWI).
  • Familiarity with material certifications and supplier inspection records.

Benefits

  • 401(k) with company match
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid company holidays
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) and vacation
