Hands-on inspection across processes
- Stamping, Forming & Laser: Evaluate parts for splits, cracks, wrinkles, excessive burrs, die marks, distortion, springback, edge quality, flatness, bend angles, and dimensional variation.
- Welding: Visually verify weld size, location, profile, porosity, undercut, spatter, burn-through, cracks, distortion, fit-up, and overall workmanship.
- CNC Machining: Check dimensional accuracy, hole diameters, thread quality, surface finish, and CTQ features.
- E‑Coat & Powder Coat: Confirm coverage, dry film thickness, adhesion, cure, color, gloss, contamination, orange peel, craters, chips, bare spots, and runs using thickness gauges and visual standards.
- CMM: Run established CMM programs and operate the machine to verify geometry as needed.
- Execute receiving, first-piece/first-off, first article (FAI), in-process, last-piece/last-off, final, rework, and containment inspections.
- Identify, tag, segregate, and record nonconforming material (NCRs); initiate and support containment to stop defect flow.
- Contribute to problem-solving using 5‑Why, Fishbone diagrams, Pareto analysis, 8D, and CAPA.
- Log inspection outcomes in QMS/ERP, Excel, layout reports, and SPC records with high accuracy.
- Maintain complete traceability for inspected parts, raw stock, and purchased components.
- Assist with PPAP, APQP, control plan verification, and customer-specific documentation.
- Verify incoming raw materials against purchase orders, prints, and Certificates of Conformance.
- Coach operators on defect recognition, gauge use, inspection criteria, and reaction plans.
- Support internal, customer, and layered process audits to maintain IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 compliance.
- Education: High school diploma or GED; technical certification in manufacturing, quality, metrology, machining, welding, or related field is preferred.
- Experience: 2 years of quality inspection in manufacturing (automotive/metal fabrication/stamping/welding/machining/coating preferred).
- Technical: Blueprint and drawing interpretation, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), work instructions, and control plans.
- Measurement tools: Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, plug/thread/bore/go/no‑go gauges, and fixtures.
- Systems: Basic computer skills for Microsoft Excel and ERP/QMS data entry.
- Soft skills: Meticulous attention to detail and sound judgment; able to make confident pass/fail calls under pressure.
- CMM experience or ability to run programs (PC‑DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, CMM Manager).
- Advanced metrology exposure (FARO Arm, Hexagon arm, optical comparator, profilometer).
- Weld inspection training/certifications (AWS, CWI, CAWI).
- Familiarity with material certifications and supplier inspection records.
