WELDING QUALITY INSPECTOR

Position Overview:

The Welding Quality Inspector is responsible for inspecting welded components, ensuring compliance with IFAB quality standards, customer specifications, and applicable welding codes. This role will perform visual inspections, dimensional checks, and documentation reviews to ensure the integrity, safety, and quality of welded products. The inspector will work closely with the welding team, production supervisors, and quality engineers to identify defects, prevent rework, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform visual weld inspections according to company standards and welding codes (AWS, ISO, or customer-specific requirements).
• Verify weld parameters, joint preparation, materials, and welding processes before and during production.
• Conduct dimensional inspections using gauges, calipers, and other measurement tools.
• Identify weld defects (porosity, cracks, undercut, spatter, etc.) and document findings with accuracy.
• Generate inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and maintain proper records in the quality system.
• Collaborate with welding personnel to communicate defects and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive action plans for welding-related issues.
• Validate welder qualifications and ensure compliance with approved welding procedures (WPS/PQR).
• Participate in audits, process inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and promote a safe working environment around welding operations.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or technical certificate required; Associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in welding inspection or related field.
• Knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) and welding symbols.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred (not required).
• Strong understanding of WPS, PQR, and welding quality standards.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and quality documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify weld defects accurately.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with production and quality teams.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift up to 30–40 lbs as needed.
• Work in manufacturing environment with exposure to welding fumes, noise, and heat (PPE provided).
