Position Description: Foundation Fundraising Intern

Improving Economies for Stronger Communities (IESC) has a Summer 2026 internship opportunity available within its Executive Office focused on Foundation Fundraising. This is an unpaid internship. The successful applicant must be able to commit a minimum of 20 hours per week.

IESC's internship program is open to current students in graduate and undergraduate programs. Students that have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program within twelve (12 months) of applying are eligible for the internship. Previous internship (s) and/or professional work experience preferred. Strong research and writing skills and an ability to work independently are needed. Knowledge of and interest in nonprofits, fundraising, international economic development, business, or international affairs is preferred. 

Location: Washington, DC

Reporting to: IESC's President & CEO, and in concert with the Vice President, New Business

Estimated Start Date: May/June 2026

Duties:

  • Conduct research of pre-identified foundations and other funders, as well as identify and research additional funders, for funding of two new program models aligned to our mission

  • Help develop communications to the targeted funders and conduct associated follow up

  • Help develop tailored proposals and related submissions specific to each funder

  • Related and additional duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Proven research and analytical skills

  • Self-starter with a strong attention to detail

  • Knowledge of and interest in nonprofits, foundations, fundraising, international economic development, and/or business
