About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced safety professional seeking to contribute to one of the nation's most critical construction projects? We are currently recruiting a Safety Professional to join HSS as a full-time team member at the Savannah River Site. In this role, you will oversee the safety performance of a construction contractor, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety standards and promoting a proactive safety culture. This position offers an opportunity to play a vital role in the safe execution of a high-hazard nuclear construction project of national significance.
What You’ll Do
As the Safety Professional, you will:
- Manage and oversee the Contractor’s Safety Program and implementation of the approved Worker Protection Plan in compliance with 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety and Health Program and all federal, state, and DOE requirements.
- Serve as HSS’s safety representative for contractor oversight, ensuring the contractor complies with safety requirements and industry best practices.
- Act as a key safety liaison with company Safety and Health staff, project leadership (WPO/CTR), and contractor representatives to address and resolve safety and health issues.
- Ensure safety requirements are clearly communicated and flowed down to all workers and subcontractors.
- Conduct safety orientations, toolbox talks, and pre-job briefings.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions.
- Contribute actively to safety meetings, risk assessments, and project planning activities.
- Foster a proactive and positive safety culture across the project.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following minimum requirements:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Safety and Health (from a BCSP-recognized accredited institution)
- At least seven (7) years of full-time experience in the field of safety and health
Preferred:
- Prior nuclear, DOE, or high-hazard construction project experience
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOE, and NFPA standards
- Demonstrated success managing safety on large, multi-employer construction projects
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Candidates within driving distance to Aiken, SC (Savannah River Site) are strongly preferred
