Job Summary

Gulf Island Fabrication is seeking a skilled CNC Machine Operator specializing in plasma and laser cutting to support high-quality fabrication operations. This role is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC-controlled plasma and laser cutting equipment to produce precision metal components according to engineering specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, experience interpreting blueprints, and a commitment to safety, quality, and production efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and monitor CNC plasma and laser cutting machines to cut metal components to specification.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machine setup and cutting requirements.
• Load raw materials (sheet metal, plate, etc.) and ensure proper alignment and positioning.
• Input, adjust, and verify CNC programs for accuracy and efficiency.
• Inspect finished parts using measuring tools (calipers, tape measures, gauges) to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC equipment to minimize downtime.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with 5S and safety standards.
• Follow all company safety policies, including proper use of PPE and safe machine operation.
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and team members to improve processes and resolve production issues.
• Document production data, material usage, and quality checks as required.

Specific Qualifications

• Proficiency in operating CNC plasma and laser cutting machines.
• Basic knowledge of CNC programming (G-code or similar systems preferred).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes and materials.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments.
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and metal particulates.
