IES Environmental is seeking a strong writer and careful researcher to join our team as an Entry-Level Environmental Analyst, focused on Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and environmental due diligence.
This position sits at the center of our due diligence practice, which serves lenders, developers, attorneys, and property owners across New England and the New York Tri-State Area. The work is primarily office-based: researching property histories, navigating regulatory databases, and translating findings into clear, well-organized Phase I ESA reports. The role is ideal for a recent graduate who writes well, thinks critically, and wants to build expertise in environmental due diligence under the direct mentorship of Environmental Professionals.

Our due diligence practice serves regional and national lenders, real estate developers, attorneys, and commercial property owners. With offices in Lynnfield, Massachusetts, and Hartford, Connecticut, our work helps clients understand environmental risk, navigate regulatory requirements, and close transactions with confidence.
- Prepare Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) reports for commercial, industrial, and mixed-use properties in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the surrounding region, in accordance with ASTM E1527-21
- Conduct thorough property research using regulatory agency databases (MassDEP, CT DEEP, EPA), EDR/FirstSearch reports, historical Sanborn maps, aerial imagery, chain of title records, and other relevant sources
- Translate research findings into clear, accurate, and well-organized report narratives suitable for lender and client review
- Identify and evaluate recognized environmental conditions (RECs), controlled RECs, and historical RECs in accordance with ASTM standards and applicable regulatory guidance
- Conduct site visits and property inspections, and document site conditions through notes and photographs
- Revise reports based on internal review and incorporate comments accurately and efficiently
- Support data organization, figure preparation, and report documentation
- BS in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, or a related environmental field
- 0–3 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated interest in environmental consulting, due diligence, site assessment, or technical report preparation
- Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to synthesize technical, historical, and regulatory information into clear, client-facing reports
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel
- Familiarity with environmental due diligence, ASTM assessment standards, or environmental regulations is a plus
- Familiarity with GIS or mapping tools is a plus; experience with EDR/FirstSearch, regulatory agency portals, or environmental database research is particularly relevant
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification is a plus; training can be provided for the right candidate
- Ability to conduct periodic site visits, traverse varied terrain, and work outdoors across a range of weather conditions; must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
