Technician II - Security Systems | Job Summary

The Technician II - Security Systems is responsible for the installation, programming, configuration, and support of security systems, including Card Access, CCTV, CATV, and Intrusion Detection Systems. This role serves as a lead technician in the field, coordinating small installation teams while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications, engineered drawings, and company quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, program, test, and troubleshoot:
    • Access Control Systems
    • CCTV / Video Surveillance Systems
    • CATV Systems
    • Intrusion Detection Systems
  • Interpret engineered drawings, specifications, and manufacturer requirements to ensure accurate installations.
  • Coordinate and oversee small crews to complete assigned project tasks.
  • Provide training, direction, and technical guidance to junior technicians and installers.
  • Assist with project scheduling and workforce coordination to meet project milestones.
  • Complete and maintain project documentation, including:
    • Timesheets
    • Work orders
    • Material transfers
    • Change orders
    • Tool transfers
    • Other required project records
  • Adhere to all company, customer, and industry safety standards and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Support project process improvements and continuous operational excellence.
  • Serve as a professional representative of the company when interacting with customers and project stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience installing and programming security systems.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Access Control Systems
    • CCTV and Video Management Systems
    • Intrusion Detection Systems
    • CATV Systems
    • Low-Voltage Cabling Infrastructure
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineered drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead small crews and coordinate daily field activities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Regular attendance is mandatory
  • The General Superintendent must be self-motivated, positive in approach, and convey an appropriate professional image.
  • The General Superintendent must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • The General Superintendent must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
  • The General Superintendent must also have excellent organizational skills and the ability to develop branch and job processes and best practices.
  • The General Superintendent must have proven high skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • The General Superintendent must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • The General Superintendent must possess the ability to learn and teach the Company and customer project management systems.
  • The General Superintendent must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk very large job sites regularly.
  • The General Superintendent must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:

  • Prefer a minimum of five (5) years’ experience of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • The General Superintendent must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Lead Communications Technician or similar position.
  • The General Superintendent must also have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in telecommunications or a related technical or construction field.
  • Must be proficient with a computer and be skilled with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project).
  • Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
  • The General Superintendent Must have demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, create an estimate, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.
  • Must be able to use the following trade Tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt-ohmmeter, 4-pair continuity tester and 5-gang punch tool.
