Job Summary

The Project Lead - Data Center Services will support both the Physical and Virtual Infrastructure of the organization and its facilities. The Project Lead - Data Center Services will drive data center best practices and related industry standards into working processes and procedures as/where applicable. The Project Lead - DCS will act as the on-site coordinator and supervisor of several Crew Leads.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Directly support and coordinate all scheduled data center MACs based on set DCIT calendar event scheduling
  • Implements cable work order (CWO) MACs, testing and certification, and can assist with crafting LV project BOM and scope documents
  • Asset auditing and daily error logs
  • Provide equipment installation MACs, including device labeling, power connectivity, and LV cable connectivity, and proper cable dressing
  • Provide smart-hands assistance as required
  • Maintain a safe and secure operating environment within the GPN data center, and report any violations to DCIT immediately as necessary
  • Concise, detailed documentation and record keeping relative to asset installation layout, cable plant patch matrix, cable labelling standards, etc.
  • Maintain the secure hard drive disk (HDD) bin and log, and ensure compliance with respect to retention practices and notification to DCIT as/when required
  • Ticketing and service calls
  • Strong skills and familiarity with basic computer productivity tools such as MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), testing tools/applications, and data center infrastructure (DCIM) related tools
  • Coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping and RMA processing support as/when required
  • Provide general cleaning on raised floor, cabinet/rack exterior surfaces, work benches and other areas as needed on a weekly basis
  • Troubleshooting layer-1 suspected cable plant issues
  • Networking, storage, and general power distribution
  • Responsible for the development, documentation, and monitoring of performance measures and processes required for audit and operational compliance related to datacenter best practices and industry standards; Responsible for ISO 27001 / 9001 and TIA/EIA-942 certifications.
  • Support standard and emergency operating procedures for the data center.
  • Ensure maintenance schedules within the Data Center align with best industry standards and are followed and reviewed annually.
  • Provide status reporting regarding Data Center service availability, performance, and capacity utilization as required.
  • Daily error log reporting and physical DC inspections for general health, power, cooling, hazards, etc.
  • Coordinates equipment installation and delivery schedules in accordance with set project plans
  • Directly participate and provide key input for all data center expansion, migration and decommissioning plan


Tools

Basic Hand Tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, and gloves.

Trade Tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt-ohmmeter, 4-pair continuity tester and 5-gang punch tool.

Qualifications

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).
  • Must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • 3-5 years working in data centers related to the datacom/telecom industry, operations and administration or related technical field
  • General knowledge of telecom/IP equipment and software configurations
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC power principles
  • Strong aptitude for an independent working environment and high productivity rate
  • Must be able to act as the Company liaison for interface with customer representative(s).
  • Must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to effectively read, write, and give oral presentation(s).
  • Must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder, and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship skills
  • Regular attendance is mandatory


Education, Certification, License, And Skill Requirements

  • Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency
  • Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field.
  • Any network, storage or server certifications are a plus
  • Must be able to terminate fiber.
  • Must possess a minimum of six (6) months supervisory and/or managerial experience.
  • Must possess and be able to effectively use the tools listed above.
  • Must have proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Must know the universal communications color codes.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project)
  • Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
