Crew Lead - Structured Cabling

Job Summary

The Crew Lead - Structured Cabling serves as the on-site lead for voice and data installation projects, coordinating daily crew activities and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to Company and customer quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate structured cabling crews on voice and data installation projects.
• Monitor crew performance, provide training and direction, and escalate performance concerns as needed.
• Ensure compliance with Company and customer safety and quality requirements, including required safety meetings.
• Partner with the Project Manager and Project Lead to maintain productivity, project schedules, and budget expectations.
• Complete required project documentation accurately and on time, including timesheets, work orders, material transfers, change orders, and tool transfers.
• Perform quality checks, coordinate moves and cross-connect activity, and maintain red-lined as-built drawings.
• Serve as the primary on-site contact for customer questions and participate in project or facility meetings as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to structured cabling installations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• Working knowledge of data center infrastructure, structured cabling, equipment installation, and basic network connectivity.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, testing and certification tools, ticketing systems, and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms.
• Strong documentation, troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail in a mission-critical environment.

The Crew Lead is expected to provide hands-on leadership, coordinate daily work activities, maintain high standards for safety and quality, and support the team in resolving technical and operational issues. Successful individuals in this role are dependable, detail-oriented, technically capable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced data center environment.

Required Tools

Basic Hand Tools: Standard and Phillips screwdrivers, drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, needle-nose and channel-lock pliers, hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, and gloves.

Trade Tools: Punch-down tool with 110/66 blades, 6/8-position crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX tools, butt set, volt-ohm meter, 4-pair continuity tester, and 5-gang punch tool.

Physical and Professional Requirements

• Self-motivated, professional, and able to work effectively with customers and project teams.
• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
• Ability to work at heights, on ladders, in confined spaces, and across large job sites.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals.
• Ability to travel within the branch and/or regional territory as needed.
• Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Education, Experience, and Skills

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3 years of experience in telecommunications, structured cabling, or a related technical field.
• 6 months of supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Experience with fiber termination and universal telecommunications color codes.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documentation.
• Proficiency with required hand and trade tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
• Must meet Company driving requirements.
