We are seeking an experienced Behavior Support & Life Skills Consultant to provide person-centered consultation, behavior support, life skills instruction, caregiver coaching, and stabilization services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Clark and Cowlitz Counties.

This position provides Life Skills and Staff & Family Consultation services under both Stand Alone and Stabilization programs. Consultants work collaboratively with individuals, families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to build skills, increase independence, reduce barriers, and improve quality of life.

What You'll Do-

As a Behavior Support & Life Skills Consultant, you will assess individual strengths and needs while developing creative, person-centered strategies that promote independence, improve quality of life, and empower individuals to reach their personal goals.

You will provide direct consultation, behavior support, caregiver education, and skill development using evidence-based, person-centered practices.

Services You'll Provide-

Life Skills Development:

Support individuals in developing meaningful skills that promote greater independence, including:

  • Self-advocacy and self-determination
  • Safety awareness
  • Effective communication
  • Social and interpersonal skills
  • Emotional regulation and coping strategies
  • Daily living and adaptive skills
  • Problem-solving and decision-making
  • Community participation and inclusion

Behavior Support & Stabilization

Provide individualized behavior support by:

  • Identifying the function of behavior and developing effective support strategies.
  • Implementing proactive, preventative, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Teaching replacement skills that improve long-term outcomes.
  • Supporting individuals during periods of crisis or stabilization.
  • Reducing barriers that interfere with independence and community participation.

Staff & Family Consultation

Partner with caregivers and support teams by providing education, coaching, and consultation related to:

  • Positive behavior support strategies
  • Effective communication techniques
  • Teaching and instructional methods
  • Health and medication monitoring
  • Positioning and transferring
  • Assistive technology and adaptive equipment
  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
  • Environmental modifications
  • Nutrition and wellness
  • Community resources
  • Parenting support
  • Implementing individualized support plans consistently across environments

Essential Responsibilities-

  • Build trusting relationships with individuals, families, caregivers, and professional support teams.
  • Complete assessments and develop individualized SMART goals.
  • Provide person-centered consultation and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with case managers, therapists, physicians, schools, and other professionals.
  • Develop visual supports, teaching tools, and individualized resources.
  • Apply behavior support principles to identify the function of behavior and teach replacement skills.
  • Utilize proactive supports, prompting strategies, prompt fading, reinforcement, and positive behavior interventions.
  • Coach caregivers and direct support professionals to improve consistency across environments.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation and reports.
  • Respond calmly and professionally during crisis situations.
  • Mentor and train developing consultants.
  • Ensure all services comply with DDA and Medicaid requirements.

QualificationsRequired-

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Counseling, Sociology, Education, Nursing, Human Services, Child Development, Gerontology, or another related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred-

  • Experience providing DDA Life Skills and Staff & Family Consultation services.
  • Experience providing Stabilization services.
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and positive behavior support.
  • Experience supporting individuals during behavioral or crisis situations.
  • Professional certifications or licensure are welcomed but not required.

Professional Growth & Compensation-

$28.00 to $33.00 per hour

Tier 1 | Entry Level Life Skills Consultant

$28.00 to $29.00 per hour

Designed for professionals who meet the minimum qualifications and are building their experience providing Behavior Support, Life Skills, Staff & Family Consultation, and Stabilization services.

Typical placement within this tier:

$28.00/hour

  • Meets the minimum qualifications for the position.
  • Successfully completes orientation and onboarding.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, strong communication, and a willingness to learn.

$29.00/hour

  • Consistently demonstrates independence and reliability.
  • Effectively manages assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates continued growth, initiative, and readiness to assume additional responsibilities.

Tier 2 | Lead Life Skills Consultant

$30.00 to $31.00 per hour

Designed for experienced consultants who consistently demonstrate sound professional judgment, leadership, and the ability to independently manage increasingly complex situations.

Typical placement within this tier:

$30.00/hour

  • Meets all expectations of a Lead Life Skills Consultant.
  • Independently manages a full caseload.
  • Demonstrates competency in behavior support, caregiver consultation, and stabilization services.

$31.00/hour

  • Consistently exceeds Lead Consultant expectations.
  • Coaches and mentors newer consultants.
  • Demonstrates leadership beyond assigned responsibilities.
  • Serves as a trusted resource for complex situations and team support.

Tier 3 | Senior Life Skills Consultant

$32.00 to $33.00 per hour

Reserved for highly experienced consultants who demonstrate exceptional leadership, advanced behavior support expertise, and a commitment to mentoring others.

Typical placement within this tier:

$32.00/hour

  • Meets all expectations of a Senior Life Skills Consultant.
  • Demonstrates advanced expertise in behavior support and stabilization.
  • Independently manages highly complex cases.

$33.00/hour

  • Recognized as an agency leader and subject matter expert.
  • Leads trainings, mentors consultants, and supports program development and quality improvement.
  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership, professionalism, and person-centered excellence.

Placement within each tier is based on demonstrated competencies, performance, leadership, experience, and the needs of the organization.

Work Environment-

Services are provided throughout Clark and Cowlitz Counties in a variety of community settings, including:

Note: Travel between client locations is required.

The successful candidate must be able to:
