Job Summary

The Membership Marketing and Benefits Specialist is responsible for collecting, organizing, packaging, and communicating member benefits from within MGA and from across IEEE, with the goals of maximizing value perception, and contributing to increased new member recruitment, improved member engagement, increased retention, and improvements in member satisfaction survey scores. This role is an integral member of the Membership Marketing & Operations team and collaborates with partners in MGA and other OU's to evaluate, create and promote member benefits and value offerings that are attractive, relevant, competitive, and well-communicated, and are aligned with organizational goals, member needs, and market trends. They will regularly assess current offerings and make recommendations for improvements, or to sunset benefits that are not contributing to the above stated objectives. The Specialist will be lead staff support for the MBPAC volunteer committee and provide research based insights that will help volunteers make informed decisions. The position is an individual contributor and reports to the Director of Membership Marketing & Operations.

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Analysis & Value Proposition Development (35%)

  • Based on data, research, and collaboration with other OUs, collect value/benefit information from around the organization and use to build cohesive member value propositions and communications plans that resonate with targeted audiences.
  • Drive product portfolio roadmaps related to member interest categories including: (1) Access to technical information, (2) Career services, (3) Professional networking, (4) Continuing education, and (5) Member Discounts.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities in the current benefits offering and recommend enhancements or new benefits aligned with organizational goals, member needs, or market trends.
  • Regularly assess current offerings, using pre-defined metrics, results, and feedback to recommend improvements or sunsetting.
  • Provide research-based insights to support strategic decisions.

Marketing & Communication (30%)

  • Collaborate with Membership Marketing & Operations staff to create a best-in-class communications plan to increase member awareness, and engagement with benefits and services. Package and communicate member benefits effectively.
  • Maximize perceived value to support recruitment, engagement, and retention.
  • Coordinate message development, direct outreach, advertising, and social media with the Membership Marketing team and evaluate the results of these efforts.
  • Collaborate on promotional strategies with internal partners. Recommend changes to membership marketing plans with supporting product plans to achieve objectives.
  • Track KPIs and operational metrics to assess effectiveness, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor member satisfaction and engagement with benefits through surveys, focus groups, and analytics.

Volunteer Support (20%)

  • Serve as the primary staff support to the Member Benefits Portfolio Advisory volunteer committee (MBPAC) charged with identifying and evaluating products and services for IEEE members. Work closely with the Member Discounts staff in the Finance and Administration Department.
  • Participate in meetings and provide support as needed to other MGA committees charged with member engagement and development.
  • Some virtual meeting participation outside normal business hours including evenings and weekends may be required for MGA Board and committee meetings that are scheduled to support the global membership and volunteers.

Operational Execution & Project Management (15%)

  • Ensure that initiatives are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget, while meeting quality standards and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Manage all activities within an allocated budget, with responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Ensure benefits are easily accessible and that members understand how to derive value from them.
  • Ad hoc projects and assignments at the request of the Director, Senior Director, or Managing Director as needed.
  • Oversee relationships with third-party providers to ensure service quality and contract compliance.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Business or Marketing, or a related field Req

Work Experience

  • 4-7 years Membership marketing, product management, program development, or customer experience, preferably in an association, nonprofit, or B2C environment. Req

Skills and Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially with marketing and promotions. Strong storytelling skills. Ability to present recommendations and / or findings clearly and concisely to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering high-impact digital content across multiple platforms. Ability to plan, schedule, and execute digital campaigns across web, email, and social channels. Familiarity with SEO best practices, accessibility standards, and analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics) to optimize content performance.
  • Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration and communications skills.
  • Experience with all facets of coordinating and running virtual meetings with multiple stakeholders, including the use of doodle polls, an various virtual collaboration platforms (e.g. Webex, Google Meet, Teams, etc)
  • Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, financial processes, and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience in data analysis, member segmentation and market research
  • Highly proficient in Google and Office Suites, Tableau and Smartsheet or similar.
  • Knowledgeable with the use of AI productivity tools, (e.g. Microsoft Copilot, Gemini) a plus
