Job Summary: The Applications Design - Advisor will be responsible for the design details of large cooling systems within budget, schedule and technical compliance. As required, provide design support for custom cooling systems from order receipt to shipment. The Design Advisor will be responsible for full project level duties, including but not limited to, customer interface, presentations, quoting, account management, follow-ups, and issue resolution. The Design Advisor will be responsible for training new employees on the components and product types that IEA Cooling manufactures.

Must possess excellent organizational and communicational skills and be detail oriented. Ensure proper procedures and methods are used by other members of the team. Effectively communicates the plan and/or procedures, both oral and written, with colleagues and customers.

Essential Duties & Primary Responsibilities: include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:

  • Engineering
  • Complete engineering design plans to include thorough design information as needed.
  • Maintain design plan templates and produce updates and new plans.
  • Complete detailed "Quick/HFA" preliminary drawings as needed
  • Work with Sales/Application individuals to select and choose the most appropriate design
  • Works with customers to select and choose most appropriate design
  • Communicate new job scheduling with Director of Product Engineering and Development
  • Communicate elements of designs to customers as quotes are submitted and questions arise
  • Commercial
  • Participates in sales meetings
  • Communicate design details to Sales/Application and Accounting to derive accurate costs
  • Serve as VOC and route messages internally as required-customer complaints, field problems, general info
  • Meet with potential new customers and presents IEA capabilities.
  • Manage specific customers and projects regarding product designs, concerns and improvements.
  • Trainer/Educator
  • Conduct Radiator 101 classes as scheduled for new employees.
  • Conduct pointed classes on specific topics as needed.

Physical Demands:

  • Maximum lifting requirement (pounds): 10 (seldom).
  • Maximum moving requirement (pounds): 25 (seldom).
  • Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent sitting; infrequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting upper body, or climbing.
  • Working at heights off the ground up to (feet): 10 (seldom).
  • Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.

Work Environment:

  • Work location(s): Office; metal fabrication/assembly shop; field visits to customer/rep locations including domestic/international travel.
  • Unlikely exposure to fumes, airborne particles, wet/humid (non-weather) conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/equipment, inclement weather conditions.
  • Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses with side shields when in shop areas. Safety toed shoes when working/visiting shop environments. Additional equipment as per job site/length of stay requirements.

Position Requirements:

  • Computer skills, abilities and knowledge:
  • Must have strong mechanical design software (Solid Works or other equivalent 3D design software) background and experience.
  • FEA and CFD packages experience.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, etc.
  • Familiarity with MRP systems (Syteline)

Experiential:

  • 15 to 20 years, or more, of engineering and design-related experience in mechanical (electro-mechanical) engineering arena. (Exposure to electrical systems-preferred)
  • Working knowledge of UL, NEC, NFPA, ASME and ISO standards preferred
  • Ability to communicate (oral/written) with employees and others.
  • Knowledge of product and system design, construction, and operation
  • Specific experience in the data center and heat transfer industry would be highly preferred.
  • Ability to prepare technical engineering documents (Solidworks) including prints and drawings.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or associate’s degree in mechanical design or related field (considered).
