The Assembler performs repetitive bench-type assembly operations to mass produce various radiator cores.  The Assembler I receives specific work assignments under general supervision and resolves most problems with some supervisory assistance.  The Assembler reviews production schedules and core blueprints to ensure assemblies being built meet engineering specification and that work is completed within the routed time.  The Assembler is responsible for the proper setup and use of all associated manufacturing tools and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:

  • Reviews job orders (written or verbal) and determines material needs.
  • Selects and assembles proper materials and parts for building specific cores.
  • Assembles cores by performing various manual tasks including:
    • Setting up stacking fixtures
    • Setting and running up fin machines, ensuring print adherence.
    • Measurement and documentation of component attributes, ensuring components meet Engineering/print standards.
    • Troubleshooting of equipment to produce components to print standards.
    • Stacking, compressing, and banding/fixturing cores.
    • Attaching headers on cores (with mallet).
    • Using various hand tools to ensure proper fin, tube, and header alignment.
    • Completing material and labor transactions in ShopTrak including serial number issuance.
    • Filling out brazing checklists.
    • Preparing and applying flux.
    • Setting up and monitoring brazing operation
  • Inspects cores for imperfections, etc.; prepares/attaches core tags.
  • Documentation of failure modes and potential countermeasures to prevent further failures.
  • Notifies Supervisor/Manager of out of spec operations/conditions to obtain further assistance, as needed.
  • Contributes to TEAM effort in all aspects of job.
  • Cleans and maintains work area (daily), core building equipment and other tools of the trade.
  • Works in a safe manner at all times.
  • Ensures that all work is done in accordance with and adheres to IEA’s ISO and Quality standards.

Physical Demands:

  • Maximum lifting requirement (pounds):  100 (assisted- infrequently), 50 (assisted-occasionally), 25 (frequently).
  • Maximum push/pull requirement (pounds):  100.
  • Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following:  Frequent standing, walking, crouching, stooping, squatting, and twisting upper body; infrequent climbing, kneeling or sitting.
  • Working at heights off the ground up to:  Not applicable.
  • Vision requirements:  Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.

Work Environment:

  • Work location:  Metal fabrication/assembly.
  • Exposure to:  Fumes, airborne particles, extreme heat (non-weather) conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/equipment, sharp materials.
  • Personal protective equipment requirement:  Safety glasses, gloves and safety shoes.
Qualifications:
  • Key skills, abilities, and knowledge: 
    • Ability to read and understand job requirements, shop drawings, bills of material and blueprints.
    • Knowledge of properties of core materials, structural metals and related materials (OJT).
    • Skill in operating and maintaining core manufacturing equipment and related tools of the trade (OJT).
    • Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.
  • Experiential:  three or more years of manufacturing or related experience is desirable.  Three years minimum of Machine Operator experience required. Company will train employees on the job.
  • Educational:  Related technical training (high school or beyond) is desirable but not essential.
  • Certificates, Licenses:  Forklift operator certification is desirable but not essential.
