Job Title: Survey Technician
About the Job
This role is responsible for collecting and computing data related to measuring the Earth's features.
The successful candidate will develop a deep understanding of construction layouts, conduct topographic analyses, and capture static measurements using industry best practices and standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect field data using sophisticated measuring equipment
- Collaborate with project teams to understand construction sequences
- Apply GPS equipment to set laths for construction, including center and offsets, while being able to field fit miscellaneous items
- Operate survey instruments to capture static measurements for various disciplines, with verified horizontal and vertical residuals from client-provided benchmarks
- Perform calculations to determine accurate elevations, distances, and angles for various construction projects
- Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, etc.
- Search for section corners, property states, and survey points
- Maintain and troubleshoot all GPS equipment as directed by the Survey Equipment team
- Ensure equipment and tools are clean, properly powered down, and stored at the end of the business day
- Safely operate field tools and supplies to minimize the risk of injury and property damage
- Foster effective communication between surveying teams, engineering teams, and project management
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to integrate survey data into project plans
- Provide regular updates on surveying progress, challenges, and solutions to site and office management
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in surveying, remote sensing, drafting, engineering, or a related technical field (preferred)
- One year of survey experience in construction or operations, with exposure to engineering, civil, or renewable energy activities
- Computer literacy and well-developed file management skills
- Preferred comprehension of ALTA Surveys and various schematics
- Preferred understanding of surveying software, such as Trimble Business Center, MAGNET Office, or Civil 3D
- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
