Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Aviation, the Aviation Senior Project Manager will lead the planning, design, and delivery of complex airport infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with clients and regulatory agencies, and ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, leadership ability, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to quality, safety, and professional excellence.
The position is responsible for assisting in business development activities to identify, position and secure client opportunities in the aviation market. This individual will manage and supervise a team of direct reports and assist in the identification and acquisition of personnel to expand the team while growing the aviation market.
This work will include a wide array of aviation projects with commercial and general aviation clients. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of eight years of experience in aviation engineering, with a strong background in airport infrastructure, airside and landside design, and assist with project management.
Job activities will include the geometric design of runways, taxiways, aprons, roadways; bituminous and concrete pavement design; stormwater and utility infrastructure design; support facility infrastructure and related systems; coordination with airports, airlines, FAA, and other tenants; and construction administration/management.
Job Requirements
- Manage and lead aviation infrastructure projects, including design of runways, taxiways, aprons, terminals, roadways, support facilities and related systems.
- Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk management.
- Coordinate and direct multidisciplinary internal and external project teams.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure project alignment and success.
- Review and approve design documents, technical reports, technical specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents.
- Ensure compliance with FAA, TSA, state, and local regulations, industry standards, and grant requirements.
- Support contract administration and construction phase services as required.
- Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Supervise and manage assigned aviation team direct reports.
- Mentor and support professional development of junior and mid-level staff.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation and client presentations.
- Travel will be required with occasional overnight stays.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
- Active Professional Engineering (PE) license in Civil Engineering in Texas, or ability to acquire Texas PE license within 6 months if licensed in another state.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience in design and project delivery of airport infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Recent experience in design software packages such as Autodesk Civil 3D and other aviation design specialty programs.
- Strong understanding of FAA design standards and airport design principles.
- Texas Aviation experience is a plus.
- Possession of a valid driver's license in the State of Texas within 45 days of starting.
Skills
- Proficiency in engineering software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Bluebeam Revu, and other PM tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 scheduling software is preferred.
- Familiarity with sustainable design and environmental compliance in aviation projects.
- Familiarity with airfield lighting, signage, and navigational aids.
- Knowledge of airport operations and safety protocols.
- Experience working with public agencies and airport authorities.
