Job Summary:
Idyllwild Arts Academy, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate High School Counselor to join our team. This position requires someone who is passionate about supporting students' academic, college/career, and social emotional well-being, and who has experience working in independent school settings. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about the ASCA (American School Counselor Association) National Model and have a deep understanding of high school students' developmental needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling to high school students, supporting their emotional, academic, and social development.
- Work in collaboration with Resource Technician to support students with learning differences, including classroom instruction, 1:1 check ins, executive functioning skills and more.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to students, helping them navigate academic challenges, personal growth, and college/career planning.
- Develop and implement school-wide programming related to mental health, academic success, and personal development.
- Collaborate with faculty, administration, and parents to create a supportive and positive school environment.
- Assist students with college and career planning, including personal statements, application processes, and decision-making.
- Maintain confidential records and comply with ASCA ethical standards.
- Act as a resource for crisis intervention and support for students in need of more intensive services.
- Stay current on trends in counseling, high school education, and adolescent mental health.
Qualifications
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree.
- Experience working in independent schools, with a thorough understanding of their unique culture and environment.
- Knowledge and experience implementing the ASCA National Model.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, families, faculty, and administrators.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse school environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with high school-aged students in a school counseling capacity.
- Familiarity with mental health resources and interventions for adolescents.
- Experience with college admissions counseling and student success strategies.
- Experience working with or in a Resource Program assisting students with accommodations or learning differences in class
Salary : $55,000 - $70,000
