Overview
The Direct Staff Support position is essential in providing compassionate and dedicated care to individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. This role involves supporting residents with daily living activities, ensuring their safety, and promoting their overall well-being. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient care and a passion for working with individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease.
Duties
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient observation and monitoring to ensure the health and safety of residents.
- Administer medications as per care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Engage residents in social activities to enhance their quality of life and promote social interaction.
- Maintain cleanliness in living areas and assist with light housekeeping tasks.
- Support individuals with mobility needs using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Document vital signs and any changes in resident conditions accurately.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to residents, fostering a positive environment.
Skills
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.
- Experience in group home settings or similar environments is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of patient care techniques, including memory care and dementia care practices.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting residents with mobility challenges.
- Familiarity with medication administration protocols and care planning processes.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with residents, families, and team members.
- Compassionate approach towards working with individuals with disabilities or autism spectrum disorders.
- Experience in home health or hospice care is a plus.
