What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm animal care and Groundskeeping position at Idlewild Ranch?
We are looking for an individual who has a positive attitude and works well with others and without constant supervision; that is, stays busy, looks for jobs to do, and is self-motivated. The person should be compassionate towards animals and respectful of the environment. The primary hours include Saturdays and/or Sundays, and possibly a few weekday shifts. We are looking to fill a part-time position (8-24 hrs/week).
Work includes caring for and feeding animals, cleaning barns and cages, working with other employees, caring for many retired horses, donkeys, goats, geese, peafowl, ducks, chickens. Lots of cleaning of corrals, barns, water and food dishes. Horse and animal knowledge is a plus, but not required as we can teach these skills. Work with horses when the vet or farrier visit. Ranch maintenance such as fence repair, backhoe and tractor work, moving rocks, filling squirrel holes, and yard maintenance including pruning, weeding, trimming, planting, mulching, and irrigation setup and repair. Must love outdoors, yard work, animals, physical work. It is a mix of many things, which ebb and flow with the seasons.
Must be responsible, motivated, alochol and drug-free, clean, non-smoking and a good communicator. Starting pay rate is $18/hour, depending on prior experience, with a review at 90 days.
