Job Summary

IDL Medical Center is seeking a highly experienced and dependable Lead Medical Assistant to oversee daily clinical support operations within our outpatient primary care practice.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of medical assisting experience, including experience coordinating staff, managing clinical workflows, and supporting providers in a fast-paced outpatient environment. This position requires strong leadership, excellent organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to hold team members accountable while maintaining a professional and supportive workplace.

The Lead Medical Assistant will work closely with physicians, providers, medical assistants, administrative staff, virtual assistants, and medical scribes to ensure that patients receive efficient, compassionate, and high-quality care.

Position Details

Schedule:
Monday–Thursday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM
Friday, 8:30 AM–1:00 PM

Patient population: Adult primary care
Setting: Outpatient family medicine
Position type: Full-time, permanent
Work location: In person

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support the medical assistant team.
  • Coordinate daily clinical staffing assignments and provider coverage.
  • Monitor patient flow and help ensure that providers remain on schedule.
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure that rooms are properly stocked and maintained.
  • Room patients, obtain vital signs, verify medications, and document medical histories.
  • Assist providers during examinations and in-office procedures.
  • Perform EKGs, injections, point-of-care testing, and other approved clinical duties.
  • Ensure that laboratory results, imaging reports, hospital records, and specialist notes are available for providers.
  • Monitor clinical work queues and ensure that assigned tasks are completed accurately and promptly.
  • Train and onboard new medical assistants.
  • Reinforce office policies, clinical protocols, infection-control standards, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Conduct routine quality checks of medical assistant documentation and clinical workflows.
  • Identify workflow problems and work with management to implement corrective solutions.
  • Maintain accurate medication, vaccine, and clinical supply inventories.
  • Monitor expiration dates and coordinate ordering of medical supplies.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of medications and vaccines.
  • Address patient concerns professionally and escalate clinical or operational issues when appropriate.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and high standards of patient service.
  • Participate in staff meetings, performance improvement initiatives, and compliance activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for medical assistant workflow questions and clinical support issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant certification or registration preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of medical assisting experience in an outpatient medical practice.
  • Previous lead, supervisory, or team-coordination experience strongly preferred.
  • Primary care or family medicine experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical workflows, medical terminology, and infection-control procedures.
  • Proficiency in obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, administering injections, and assisting with procedures.
  • Strong EHR documentation and computer skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy clinical environment.
  • Ability to coach employees, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accountability.
  • Professional, dependable, patient-focused, and detail-oriented.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish or Russian is a plus.
