What are the responsibilities and job description for the Risk & Compliance Lawyer position at IDEX Consulting Ltd?
Risk & Compliance Lawyer
New York (Hybrid)
Our client is a top-tier international law firm with a globally recognised practice across the most complex cross-border corporate and financial matters. As part of continued investment in its Legal Department, they are looking to appoint a Risk & Compliance Lawyer to join the US team, managing the firm's risk exposure and advising the partnership on business acceptance, conflicts, confidentiality and regulatory compliance issues.
This is a genuine seat inside a leading firm's risk function — broad exposure across conflicts of interest, client due diligence, sanctions, AML compliance, engagement terms and lateral hire conflicts, without the billable-hour treadmill of practice, and with direct partner-facing responsibility from day one.
You will advise partners on business acceptance issues relating to conflicts of interest, confidential information, reputational risk and sanctions globally, undertaking due diligence and reputational risk assessment on new clients and matters. You will help resolve conflicts, confidentiality and AML/sanctions issues, including drafting waivers and maintaining information barriers, and act as a go-to resource for partners, associates and staff at all levels on US law, regulation and firm policy. You'll also review client engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines, advise on ethics and regulatory compliance matters (audit letters, securities dealing, anti-bribery regulation, attorney advertising, fee arrangements), assist with conflicts review on incoming lateral hires, and build relationships across at least two sector groups. You will also contribute to training — including new hire induction and Intapp systems training — and support the wider development of the department's business acceptance processes.
We're keen to speak with US-qualified lawyers, ideally with at least four years' experience gained within a leading international law firm — either within a compliance, conflicts, risk management or business acceptance function, or with a comparable grounding in risk management or professional responsibility/attorney ethics. You'll bring strong analytical skills, excellent drafting and communication, and the confidence and diplomacy to influence partners and staff at all levels — combined with the practical, commercial judgment to find workable solutions under pressure. This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence three days a week, with the flexibility to work out of hours and travel as needed to serve the requirements of a global firm.
Compensation sits between $175,000 and $195,000 base.
Salary : $175,000 - $195,000
