What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Designer position at IDEO?
At IDEO, Business Design means designing new products, services, and experiences, while simultaneously designing the broader business strategy and roadmap for execution. Our Business Designers lead at the intersection of strategy and design to drive competitive advantage and strategic growth for our clients. Whether by or , they wield and leverage business tools to design viable solutions, and turn abstract ideas into tangible solutions in the market.

What do IDEO Business Designers do?- Develop and lead experiments, producing insights that help identify and create innovation roadmaps for existing brands
- Creatively problem-solve by generating alternatives; take into account feasibility; explore unconventional or hidden solutions in a business context
- Design profitable new products, brands, services, and consumer experiences, as well as new business models and ventures
- Create organizational structures, capabilities, and operating models to help the client company drive its own innovation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams ranging from design researchers to data scientists, as well as designers across all creative and technical disciplines
- Build an understanding of IDEO's client organizations, and partner with clients to drive change and innovation within their teams and organizations
- Continuously grow with, as well as upskill, the Business Design craft through knowledge sharing and bringing unique perspectives to the greater IDEO community
- Minimum 4 years of full-time working experience - in a past life, you may have worked in strategy consulting, product strategy, product management, product innovation, corporate strategy, business insights, business analytics, business planning, go-to market, and/or growth strategy
- Fluency and confidence in business acumen (may be obtained through MBA and/or other formal or informal education and experiences), including knowledge in strategy, marketing, finance, operations, and product development
- Ability to build and interpret financial models to quantify business impact
- Track record in making ideas real and tangible, from concept to execution roadmap, as an entrepreneur and/or intrapreneur
- Ability to interpret and communicate complex business ideas to different audiences, through text, visual, and verbal communications
- Comfort working in ambiguous situations with limited direction
- Insatiable curiosity to learn more about businesses, industries, markets, and what drives them
