POSITION SUMMARY:

Identity, a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to serving Latino youth and families, is seeking a dynamic and culturally responsive part-time ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Instructor to work with Spanish-speaking young adults (ages 18–25). We are hiring instructors for each of our two YOC locations (Takoma Park and Gaithersburg).

The ESOL Instructor will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, trauma-informed English language instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of immigrant and first-generation youth. Instruction will focus on practical English skills for everyday living, education, and workforce readiness, while building confidence and promoting community integration.

The ideal candidate will be bilingual (English/Spanish), have experience working with vulnerable youth populations, and be passionate about supporting English language learners in their personal, academic, and professional growth.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plan, develop, and deliver engaging ESOL lessons tailored to beginner level.

2. Teach English language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking with an emphasis on real-life communication and workforce readiness. Use real-life, functional English tied to everyday living, school success, and entry-level workforce needs.

3. Differentiate instruction for multi-level classes, including pre-literate, beginner, and intermediate learners.

4. Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, cultural respect, and confidence-building.

5. Integrate interactive activities, games, and technology to enhance language learning and keep students engaged.

6. Assess student progress through informal and formal evaluations; provide feedback and adjust instruction as needed.

7. Maintain accurate attendance, progress records, and other required documentation.

8. Coordinate access to educational technology (Chromebooks, apps, learning platforms) and support learners in using it.

9. Collaborate with program staff, case managers, and other instructors to identify and address barriers to learning (e.g., attendance, personal challenges).

10. Adheres to all client confidentiality requirements and standards.

11. Participates with focus and professionalism at required trainings, presentations and meetings.

12. Provide monthly and quarterly reports of all activities completed and/or services rendered during the reporting timeline.

13. Maintains organized and updated physical and electronic files on each client, including relevant documentation: signed forms and releases; follow-up, exit, and satisfaction surveys. Adheres to all federal, state and local client document confidentiality requirements.

14. Responds appropriately to emergency situations that involve or impact youth safety and security.

15. Supports Identity's mission and values. Continually looks for ways to improve the organization and works in alignment with Identity's strategic goals. Brings best self to workplace and shares ideas and suggestions.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Participate in program and funder-required trainings.

2. Coordinate with two Identity program locations; adapt lessons to site schedule, space, and technology access.

3. Support dual-enrolled learners participating in both ESOL and GED programming.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or two years teaching experience
  • Must be able to pass a federal criminal background check and a Child Protective Services background check.
  • Must complete the following training upon hire: Child Protective Services, HIPAA, CPR/First Aid.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual
  • Reliable transportation
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, plus experience with database management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills along with ability to make public presentations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Requires travel between sites (e.g. office and communities).
  • Able to work flexible hours, work week including evenings and weekend hours.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Part-Time for 8 hours a week
  • 6 hours of instructional
  • 2 hours of planning time

Schedule to be determined:

  • Two Instructional days (2hrs each) in person
  • One instructional day online/ remotely (2 hours)
  • Planning can be done remotely (2 hours)

Pay: $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8.0 per week

Experience:

  • teaching : 2 years (Required)

  • Takoma Park, MD 20912 (Preferred)
