Summary
The CPE Inventory and Logistics Specialist is responsible for the efficient management of all Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) inventory within the organization. This role ensures optimal stock levels of functional equipment, manages the receiving and processing of new and returned devices, and handles the disposition of defective units through the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory Management and Restocking (New Equipment)
- Receiving and Stocking: Accurately receive, unpack, and log new shipments of CPE (modems, routers, set-top boxes, optical network terminals, etc.) into the inventory management system.
- Shelf Organization: Maintain highly organized and accurately labeled storage shelves for all equipment, ensuring ease of access for technical teams.
- Inventory Control: Conduct regular physical inventory counts (e.g., daily cycle counts) to ensure system accuracy and reconcile any discrepancies.
- Stock Rotation: Implement first-in, first-out (FIFO) or other appropriate stock rotation methods to minimize aging inventory.
- Reverse Logistics and Equipment Processing (Customer Returns)
- Return Processing: Receive and log CPE returned by customers who have terminated or downgraded service.
- Inspection and Testing: Inspect returned equipment for physical damage and perform basic functional testing (power-on, connectivity check) to determine if the unit is reusable, repairable, or defective.
- Refurbishment: Clean, sanitize, and reset functional used equipment to factory settings before returning it to the ready-to-deploy shelves for future customer installations.
- Data Entry: Update inventory records immediately to reflect the status (e.g., 'Deployed,' 'Returned - Functional,' 'Returned - Defective').
- Defective Equipment and RMA Processing
- Defective Identification: Isolate and quarantine all equipment deemed defective or beyond economical repair.
- RMA Initiation: Initiate Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) with various equipment manufacturers or vendors.
- Shipping and Tracking: Prepare, package, and ship defective equipment according to manufacturer specifications and track the RMA process through to closure (receiving replacement or credit).
- Reporting: Maintain detailed records of all RMA activity, including failure rates, replacement timelines, and cost recovery data.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational training or Associates Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a technical field is a plus.
- Experience: 1 years of experience in warehouse operations, inventory control, or logistics, preferably in a technical or telecommunications environment.
- Technical Skills: Basic understanding of CPE hardware (modems, routers, etc.) is a plus. Proficiency with inventory management software (e.g., ERP systems) and Microsoft Office/Google Suite.
- Key Competencies: High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 lbs, and excellent communication skills.
