Position Summary
The MIG Welder is responsible for welding fabricated components, subassemblies, and complete assemblies used in the manufacturing of heavy-duty industrial and municipal equipment. This role is essential to maintaining the quality, efficiency, and production standards of Ideal Industries’ Welding & Fabrication Center of Excellence.
The ideal candidate will have strong MIG welding abilities, blueprint reading experience, attention to detail, and a willingness to support fabrication and assembly operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform MIG welding on subassemblies and complete assemblies
Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings to ensure proper weld lengths, fillet sizes, and specifications
Weld assemblies according to company quality and safety standards
Inspect welds and completed parts for quality, consistency, and structural integrity
Perform grinding and finishing work on welds and fabricated components as needed
Assist with fitting, assembling, and installing inner parts and components when required
Safely operate grinders, D.A. sanders, hand tools, and fabrication equipment
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Follow all company policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
Meet expectations for attendance, punctuality, productivity, and teamwork
Demonstrate initiative by learning additional jobs, fabrication processes, and subassemblies
Support production schedules and manufacturing goals
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred
Six months to one year of welding or fabrication experience preferred
Welding certification preferred but not required
Technical Skills
Demonstrated MIG welding knowledge and experience
Understanding of welder settings, machine operation, and welding techniques
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Ability to accurately read a tape measure
Experience using hand tools, grinders, and fabrication equipment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality standards
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn additional fabrication and assembly processes
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
Physical Requirements
Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
Schedule & Location
📍 Full-time position based in Vinton, Iowa
🕒 Monday – Thursday | 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Some overtime may be required based on production demands
