The Industrial Painter / Sandblaster is responsible for preparing, blasting, coating, and finishing metal and manufactured components. This position uses industrial paint and blasting equipment to ensure high-quality surface preparation and coating application while following all safety and production standards.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPainting & CoatingPrepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, masking, priming, and repairing defects.Mix, match, and apply paints, primers, and industrial coatings according to specifications.Operate HVLP, airless, and/or electrostatic spray systems as required.Inspect finished work for coverage, thickness, adhesion, color match, and overall quality.Maintain paint equipment, spray guns, booths, and curing systems.SandblastingPerform abrasive blasting (sandblasting) to clean, remove rust, scale, old coatings, and prepare surfaces for painting.Set up and operate blasting cabinets, blast rooms, or portable blasting units.Select appropriate blasting media (grit, sand, steel shot, etc.) based on material and job specs.Monitor blasting pressure, nozzle condition, and ensure uniform surface profile.Clean and maintain blasting equipment, hoses, PPE, and containment systems.GeneralFollow work orders, blueprints, and production schedules accurately.Handle and store hazardous materials safely in accordance with OSHA/MIOSHA and company procedures.Record coating materials, batch numbers, and inspection results.Maintain a clean and safe work area.Assist with material handling and basic assembly when needed.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesProficiency in industrial spray painting techniques and equipment.Knowledge of abrasive blasting procedures, media types, and surface preparation standards (SP-5, SP-10, etc., if applicable).Ability to identify surface defects and correct them.Ability to read blueprints, job travelers, and specifications.Strong attention to detail and quality control.Understanding of PPE requirements including respirators, blast hoods, gloves, and protective suits.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.Ability to work in paint booth and blasting environments with full PPE.Exposure to noise, fumes, dust, chemicals, and heat within regulated safety limits.Work EnvironmentManufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, paint systems, abrasive blasting operations, and solvents.Required use of respirators, blast hoods, and other protective equipment.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferred.1–3 years of industrial painting or sandblasting experience preferred (training may be provided).Ability to pass a respirator fit test.Knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA safety standards related to painting, blasting, and hazardous materials.Company DescriptionIDC is a rapidly growing, international company which manufactures large gearing and industrial gearboxes.
