Help Us Build What’s Next
At IDC Consulting Engineers, we’re growing our structural team and looking for a Structural Bridge Engineer to lead the design and delivery of critical infrastructure projects across California. Join us to help develop the tools, people, and processes to take engineering delivery into the digital and automation age.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design of bridges and retaining walls for major transportation projects (rail, highway, local agencies).
- Manage and deliver projects from concept through final design, ensuring technical quality and on-time delivery.
- Mentor junior engineers, review calculations, and support design staff development.
- Interface directly with agencies and consultants including Caltrans, LA Metro, and high-speed rail teams.
- Play a key role in developing customized workflows and automation tools using Grasshopper, SOFiSTiK, Rhino, and other structural modeling platforms.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, CAD teams, and software specialists to optimize delivery.
About You
We're looking for someone who doesn’t just want a job—you want to make a difference in how infrastructure is designed and delivered.
Ask yourself:
- Can I lead bridge design from scratch—including geometry, superstructure, substructure, and seismic considerations?
- Have I mentored staff or led design efforts for Caltrans or similar agency projects?
- Do I enjoy learning or developing tools that automate repetitive engineering tasks?
- Am I comfortable interfacing with clients, reviewing design submittals, and managing deadlines?
To Stand Out, You Should Be Able To:
- Share 2-3 bridge or retaining wall projects where you played a key technical or leadership role.
- Describe how you’ve contributed to digital delivery, modeling, or automation workflows—especially using Grasshopper, Rhino, or FEA tools.
- Explain a time you helped mentor junior engineers or supported a team to meet a tough deadline.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering (M.S. preferred)
- PE license in California required (SE preferred)
- 7-15 years of bridge/structural design experience
- Experience with Caltrans standards and local agency design practices
- Proficiency with structural analysis tools (SOFiSTiK, SAP2000, MidasCivil, etc.)
- Familiarity or interest in parametric design (Grasshopper, Rhino, Dynamo, Tekla etc.)
Why IDC?
- You’ll work on high-impact projects like California High-Speed Rail, LA Metro, and the High Desert Corridor
- We’re a nimble, growing firm where your contributions are recognized—and matter
- Hybrid work flexibility, collaborative team culture, and forward-thinking leadership
- A chance to help shape how modern infrastructure is designed and delivered
- Competitive compensation
- Unparalleled training opportunities
